Is "Gaming Router" just another buzzphrase or a synonym for "A router that gives you what you need"?
The recent spat of "gaming routers" made me very suspicious. Let me pre-face that with saying that I am a gamer...and I work in networking & infrastructure. That said, i'm a skeptic and that probably doesn't make for a good mix. This product, however, is great. The price it's currently positioned at is perfect. Over $100 and I wouldn't have purchased it but this current price is suitable for it's features.Ok, so the upsides:• Fast - I've never seen a slowdown, never had cause to suspect my router as the culprit for any issues (and trust me, that's the first point of contact)• Polished finish - looks good and unique• Easy setup - I loved the fact that I gave this to my family, they plugged it in, followed the steps and BINGO, it worked• Very good interface, though there are some features I find missingCons:• Streamboost - I never noticed a difference. This may be because it's in a house of 2 people and never really maxing the internet, so please don't treat this as a negative• Wi-Fi isn't the fastest rating, but then for a sub $100 router, i'm not expecting the worldSummary:If you want a cheap, effective router that prioritizes traffic correctly and has a decent Wi-Fi signal, this is your baby. Plus, who doesn't want a unique looking device? I know i do!For experts, I would advise going elsewhere. That said, it gets 5 starts because "it does exactly what it says on the tin"

Set up should have been easy but it kept freezing up during set up
Yes, it works and no problems as of yet? Set up should have been easy but it kept freezing up during set up, which was a head ache."Warning" customer service/support is non existent!!! There's a 3rd party help line but "BEWARE" THEY WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU!! They tried to tell me my internet was compromised and they would fix it for $140 dollars???pro's,* it works!cons*Set up should be easy unless it freezes up on you like it did to me! (it may have been my PC? but i don't know for sure)*No free customer support from D-Link! They do offer a pay support plan online! (i believe it was 3 calls for $30???)*Beware of 3rd party support scam. This should be illegal!!!3 stars because it is working with no issues. But again, lack of customer service, and third party support scam drops it 2 stars.(I'm being generous)

Lemon unit and shady customer service. Even my ISP told me to send it back.
I do not give one-star reviews lightly. I researched this purchase, and settled on it being my next awesome router. Was excited about the Streamboost as the hubby and I are excessive internet users.I unpack it and follow all instructions. 90 minutes and 2 phone calls later with my ISP- Cox Media to help troubleshoot this issue, we have run loads of diagnostic tests. Modem is online and functioning on all cylinders but they can not pick up a wireless signal from the router. They give me D-Links special service number - 888-614-53XX.So I call the number and I am directed to India. I do not mind this, however I feel the following proceedings were shady. The guy on the other end doesn't say "Hello, DLINK customer service," or anything identifying DLINK. I ask if it DLINK customer service, and I get a "Oh yes ma'am." I tell him an abbreviated version of my issues and he asks my ISP service provider. I tell him it is Cox Media and he hangs up. I am thinking this is odd! I didn't even give him my phone number. 10 seconds later my phone rings back with this number (239)384-71XX. This is a different guy and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He didn't identify himself at all as being with a particular company. We went back and forth diagnosing the issue and he asked for me to go to a web link fixme.it. I do so, as I have done so with other various companies to trouble shoot. He gains quick access to my computer and network, by utilizing code 422-94X. He isn't doing anything I think is bad. Just poking around checking settings and then he goes into safe mode to try to gain access to the router and some other settings. Then he brings up a screen in safemode and it keeps saying "general failure," over and over again. He goes into another setting and it pops up "network port blocked." Then he enters another command in safe mode and shows me a page which shows my computer as an access point on the network. He tells me I am not the only one accessing my network and shows my three access lines. There are like 25 more lines and about 10 read "crss," the others are each something different. He says those 25 are people or things accessing my network. None of them were things I recognized, but idrk what all I was looking at. I tried to take a screen capture of the screen but I must not have hit the buttons right and he exited out. This is where it gets good. The tech told me that the "network port blocked" was because my network was unsecure and this highly sophisticated router would not access a network that was compromised. He told me that the only way to use the router and get it to open the network port was to PAY THEM $140.00. He said he could clean my network "and kick off everyone but me." He would make it safe again to use. He told me they had access to everything I had connected to the network and all my person information. He told me that I was very vulnerable right now and he was very pushy to get my verbal agreement to pay after my network was cleaned. He said the router would work then. So in order to get this router to work I would have had to pay DLINK an additional $140.00? I may have been calling India, but I was talking with a DLINK employee. This is robbery. He said that without the network cleaning I would be unable to use the router. When I said I would have to talk to my husband and call back if I wanted to he proceed, he was like "ok, bye." If it was legit why rush off the phone, my equipment still doesn't work!So guess what, I am returning this and keeping my $140. Getting a refund. And I am going to buy a competitors product.1 STAR? Hell yeah! Not only could I not get this device to work after 90 minutes on the phone with my ISP and a the call to India, but it reports general failure. The wireless beacon in this unit was bunk. Better yet, the DLINK secret service number I was given from my ISP (only to resort to if they have made you run a load of diagnostics and nothing else can be done) was quite happy to get off the phone with me knowing my unit wasn't working. It may have been a lemon in a sea of golden geese, but the EXTREMELY SHADY customer service on DLINKS end makes me not to want to request a replacement. Even if it is just a call center and DLINK is a client of the centers, they are representing you and I believe I was experiencing a shakedown. I have all the phone numbers I called and my service number through the "Techinline Remote Desktop." If I was being given the shakedown, now a shady element has had remote access to my 2K ASUS and network because I thought they were legit. Because I thought I was allowing technicians on the authority of DLINK to fix the ISH I purchased from them! What nerve. After getting off them I called my ISP back. They told me they had no idea what it meant that my network was dirty and everything I had described was highly unethical. They told me to return the router and buy something else. Bazinga!Either way DLINK needs some clarity here. If it was legit, I might recommend some changes to the system. If what I have described sounds way off, well DLINK give me call and we'll have a chat.

Far from perfect, but Streamboost works decently.
Far from perfect, this router does a pretty good job of maintaining consistently low ping for League of Legends when other members of the household are casually using the internet. I am still trying to tweak the settings, but it doesn't seem to care if I have my PC set to priority #1, when streaming HD video on a Roku in another room, the router seems to prioritze streaming the video at highest quality rather than maintaining low ping for League. Still, I bought this router in hopes of allowing others in the house to use the internet at the same time as someone gaming without everyone getting frustrated.I should add a disclaimer that we have an atrocious ISP in the Frankfort Plant Board and average 9-12 Mbs dl and 1.5 ul when we pay for 20 dl. I believe this router has difficulty making the best of a bad situation in the narrow bandwidth times.
