Bandai Hobby - 1/144 HGUC - RX-78-2 Gundam Model Kit

The Mobile Suit Gundam (RX-78-2) model from Bandai Hobby had a fairly good and adequate scale representation of the animated series' main robot character. Some parts in this model, however, are not well-built, such as the placard for the v-antenna portion of the Gundam's face. I could not attach the red cover placard in front of the antenna, so I did a workaround: I painted the antenna connection point red, to make the missing placard substitution as the next best thing ! All the weapons and implements of the Gundam were built well, but the waist of the Gundam was rather flimsy. The attachment point of the legs to the waist points was weak, and reinsertion from time to time had to be done, each time I played with the scale model. Otherwise, the base connector for holding the model was not included (it seems to be an extra addition from Bandai, to be ordered separately).

I built a lot of LEGO kits as a kid, I mean a lot, and was looking for something more challenging/cost-effective as a "building hobby" as an adult. I would say this HG model was a good starting point to test the waters, especially at the price range. I'll try an RG next and see if that is more challenging. It's a great model though.

You can't go wrong with RX-78-2, the OG Gundam. This is the perfect kit for beginners. Easy set up and build. Only a few decals. Good articulation and range of motion. Multiple weapon and hand options.My model is custom airbrushed, panel lined and gloss coated. The design was inspired by the Strike Rouge Gundam color palette.

Easy assembly, great design and awesome detail. Very pleased with this version.

Yes would recommend for beginners but stickers are a pain fit big fingers / hands

some of these parts are VERY small, and if you don’t have tweezers of some sort you might have trouble with the stickers, but other than that this gunpla was a fun one to build.

Even though the Entry Grade is better for beginners I much prefer this, I have built 5 different versions on the Grandaddy (this kit) and everyone one of this kit I have built have not gotten loose 1 bit
