The Art of Botanical Painting

This is a very nice book, made with lavish attention to detail . Even the smallest illustration on these pages is a work of art , one would love to frame nearly every page of it . Not only that , but they are nearly all done by a different artist , so you get an oversight of all the best botanical artists around and their particular styles . I'm now a fan of Sally Keir's work in gouache . A joy to look at her work , it's a play with light . I wish the book was thicker , specially the section of drawing with colored pencils , but I'm very pleased with what I got . It is a very complete book on drawing plants , with detailed instructions on how to draw in pencil , then pencil and ink , colored pencil , gouache , watercolors , every style and technique possible are mentioned and shown . Flowers , with a detailed chart of how they flower , leaves , also with a chart of how the different leaves look like , fruit , vegetables and mushrooms ...all you can desire to draw or paint .

Very good quality for "good". Met my expectations and arrived on time!

This is the book for you - it's the book I have been searching for. It's amazing. Perfect. Exactly what I wanted to learn, totally gorgeous in every way. This is the FIRST book on botanical art anyone should add to their library.

An excellent reference for my botanical art classes and also to use at home. After all botanical art is an exacting art form that requires much practice.

very disappointed. this book is a 'look what you can do' book as one reviwer has stated should have listened. don't waste your time, buy something else. i'm happy it was second hand and i didn't pay full price.

Decir que me ha decepcionado un poco.La descripción indica que se trata de la guía definitiva de ilustración botánica, creada por la sociedad de artistas botánicos, y lo que encontramos en el libro son temáticas y guías tratadas muuuuuy por encima.Soy ilustrador, se ilustrar, y me la he comprado para ampliar mis estilos e iniciarme en la ilustración botánica. Bien, pues no veo que me vaya a servir para más que ver lo bonitas que son las ilustraciones del libro y leerlo por curiosidad, porque como digo, lo que he visto hasta ahora ( me he leído un par de tutoriales ) no explican lo suficiente como para ni tan siquiera iniciarse en serio en este campo.Por ejemplo, los tutoriales están poco documentados... te enseñan el contorno de una planta, el siguiente paso, pintada a medias, y el último ya terminada. Todo esto acompañado de no mucho texto e indicaciones muy generales sobre colores o materiales usados.Es un libro muuuuy poco técnico, que yo no veo suficiente como para usarlo de guía de aprendizaje definitiva ( cosa que ellos dicen que sí es así... ).Otro ejempo, el tema de los tipos de hojas... es una triste página, o las estructuras básicas de las plantas, es un simple recuadro con unos cuantos esquemas que no va más allá.Desde mi punto de vista, este libro es un quiero y no puedo, se queda muy corto pese a que toca muchos temas, pero demasiado por encima.Eso sí, las ilustraciones son muy bonitas, y pueden servir para usarlas de referencia, pero creo que no mucho más.

Lovely book, not very much actual instruction, so not great for beginners, but includes lots of different examples of different artist's work for inspiration.
