The Type Specimen Book: 544 Different Typefaces with Over 3000 Sizes Shown in Complete Alphabets

a well done book
This is a well designed type specimen book displaying samples of type that were available from V&M Typographic in the 1970s. The displays are of their metal type library and should prove helpful to anyone interested in the selection of type from large typographers at that time. There is a one line sample of each face at the beginning of the book. Anyone interested in type in the pre-digital world of type should find this book of interest. It you are looking for a book showing current digital type fonts, this isn't for you since the metal types had mechanical limitations not found in today's fonts.

great resource for complete font sets
I really find this book useful for hand lettering fonts. It has complete sets of serif and sans serif fonts and most have a large size option that is nice for tracing cleanly. I find the ability to randomly trace letters without having to jump back to the computer really helps keeps the creative juice flowing. It is especially good when I need lettering for posters.

Classic Typography Collection
I had this great book years ago when I was in art school. It's a treasure trove of various pre-digital fonts useful for designers and artists. Basically, it's an alphabetical listing of classic typefaces, in full alphabets and various sizes, with a selection of wingdings and bordermarks in back.I was happy to see it still available, albeit in a digitally printed form. My only disappointment is the paper weight is much lighter than in the original editions.
