Avalon
Avalon is the the first book in the Avalon series by Mindee Arnett.Science-Fiction is far from being one of my favorite genre's, however when it's done right like it is in this book, I can't seem to tear my eyes away from the pages until I'm finished.Mindee has created such an fantastically, intriguing world with this series that it's so easy to lose track of time, so absorbed I was, with the world-building and extremely well-written story.Jeth along with his sister Lizzie and his crew of teenage mercenaries, work for crime lord Hammer Dafoe, stealing whatever he wants stolen and getting paid when successful, Jeth saves his money to buy back his deceased parents spaceship Avalon, which his Uncle lost whilst gambling. It's after being sent to a job in the Belgrave (space's version of the Bermuda Triangle) to find a missing ship, when things really start to go wrong, and it's through this job that he'll finally discover the truth about his parents and why they were executed. Can Jeth finally find freedom away from Hammer, not just for himself but for his crew too whom he thinks of as family.Full of action and adventure, there's never a dull moment, so jump on board and grab yourself a copy, you wont be sorry!

Avalon
This was a great book, very character driven with good world building. Follows the story of young Jeth Seagrave and his crew of thieves. After being orphaned at the age of 11(now 17 years old) he has had to turn to a life of crime, and is struggling to make enough money to buy his parents old ship back so he can take himself, and his sister, and live a decent life away from the tyranny of the government. The book mainly revolves around the one last mission he goes on to retrieve a ship holding something very valuable. This book has some great actions scenes, along with thrilling suspense scenes, there's even a little romance to cover all the basis. While the book is said to be the first in a series, there are no sequels listed yet, and the ending has a nice finished feel to it, no cliffhangers in this one. Although there is definitely room for growth in the story, and many adventures to be had

truly LOVED this book
I really, truly LOVED this book. This (and the sequel which I'll be reviewing separately LOL) was one of my fave sci-fi finds in a really long time. I was told it had a similar feel to Firefly minus the frontier side, and it definitely did in the best of ways. That said, it pulled away and found its own identity really quick for me. Tons of gorgeous world building, and even more impressively, the author managed that world building while the plot just flew on. This was fast paced with tons of twists I never saw coming, which is a huge thing for me. I'm a little too good at predicting plot points sometimes. But yeah, all in all, I loved it. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of Mindee's books!

Good start to what I hope is a solid series!
I found this book a lot of fun. It feels like a good "series pilot", establishing characters and conflicts for future adventures, and as such, I found it compellingly entertaining. The pace slackens a little in the midsection, but it picks up again as it heads toward the third act, and then it whips right along once it settles into the climax. This is solid space opera for those looking to scratch that Firefly itch!

a great introduction into a new universe
The pace of the book is well measured. There is a good mix of action and story. While there are parallels to firefly, the story is still clearly original not simply a retelling. It's original and enjoyable!

Good fun - young sci-fi
Light, easy to read, good storyline. Probably most suitable for younger readers, but I still enjoyed it and will read the next in the series (if there is one) - plenty of scope for a follow-up.

Flight for freedom from believable villains.
I loved it. Thrown into the end of one ark of their story and a glimpse of the one to come. When does the next book come out?

Teen space drama
A very readable book that takes a well-used premise and adds a couple of interesting twists. The similarities to the TV series Firefly are rather glaring but the book has enough that it can stand the comparison. I'm not sure that I'm invested enough in the characters to want to read more in the series, but perhaps one day I'll give the next volume a try.
