Great resource and reading
Great resource and reading! Well put together all around with information very accessible and great images with text to help describe processes etc. Love this and am using it for our text in Relief Printmaking this year. Thank you Merlyn Chesterton! Another jewel for us printmakers, teachers, collectors, and everyone else.

Very Thorough Explanation of Woodblock Prints
Yet another relief printmaking book authored by a Brit, but focusing peripherally on Chinese printmakers. Ms. Chesterton writes very simply and uses good illustrations and photographs to accompany her text. Very good section on sharpening your knives.

Excellent book, snail-paces shipping
This is an excellent book for those starting out with woodblock printing. Together with Laura Boswell's book "Making Japanese Woodblock Prints", this pair forms a solid foundation of equipment, preparation, and technique. My rating is for the book. You may want to select a different vendor (see below)The shipping from the vendor, however, leaves a bit to be desired. The books arrived in perfect condition, packed in a padded envelope. However, I purchased the books on June 30 and they arrived on July 23. Tracking indicated the books shipped on July 2, but the next tracking information begins July 10, apparently taking days to travel 10 hrs from the origin, then another 6 days to travel an hour's drive to the next stop. The original arrival estimate was July 13 - 19, if I remember correctly. On July 19, the books were delayed in Utah for 2 days before resuming their journey, taking 3 days to make the 5 hour trip. Looking at the reviews, shipping time seems to be the biggest issue with this vendor.

Not the best but close.
This book good, but a little repetitive at the beginning, and there are other books written in the last few years that have better instructions. I say this because Making Woodblock Prints is the 8th book I’ve read on this topic, which includes some of those published in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Good,comprehensive intro book
I really like the extensive use of visuals and how nothing is assumed. You are not left with doubt about what is being described.

Beautiful! Highly recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in the art of woodblock print making. The authors take the reader step by step through the process, augmenting along the way with an abundance of helpful photos and finished prints.
