FLATLINERS (1 BD 25)

"FLATLINERS", a movie starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Bacon, is suspenseful, and eminently sit-throughable. Even someone like me -- who often cannot watch movies through from beginning to end, (due, I believe, from having my attention-span blasted to smithereens by decades of watching TV....with commercials interrupting the action every fifteen minutes or so), watched THIS movie from beginning to end -- with only one unavoidable break, when a neighbour came to the door to tell me I had a large package downstairs....After getting the package, (from Amazon, I might add), inside my door, I rushed back to see the rest of this movie! It has an intriguing premise -- and it is well produced, directed, and acted -- with wonderful camera work, and scene-setting, melodic and atmospheric music....Basically, the story revolves around Keifer Sutherland's character -- a medical student who is interested in seeing what happens, (and if anything does happen), after a person dies. But he also wants to come back again. So, he enlists the help of four of his friends, (also medical students), to help him. Later, all but one of his friends also undergoes a "flat-lined" few minutes. After these experiences....well, to tell more would be to ruin the plot for those who have not as yet seen the movie, (and/or read the book). But the story does continue on. er....plot-lines....generated out from the beginning of the original ground-work (ground-work????!)....set in the beginning of the movie. The beginning of the movie sets up a fascinating premise, (what, if anything, DOES happen after death?) But what comes afterwards seems a bit forced to me -- but then, where else could the plot have gone? I read in one of the other reviews that the BOOK from which this movie is taken is somewhat different than the film....but as to how different, I don't know...I chose this particular version of the DVD, because it is the "Sci-Fi Essentials" version, put out by the Scifi, (or, as it is now called, the "SyFy") channel. I expected some extras in this edition, because of this.....Well, the only "extra" here that I can find is that this disk, (which plays on both sides), has a "Wide-Screen" version on one side, and an "Full-Screen" version on the other side. I have only seen this type of DVD production, (playable on both sides), with one other DVD -- or rather, on a DVD set..."Alien Nation - The Series". In one of rhe reviews of this 3-disc set, it is stated that producing DVDs that are playable on both sides can shorten the playable life of any disc. Thus, if one wants to watch both the full-screen and wide-screen version of "Flatliners", one needs to be extra-careful with this disc. (It really is a pity that both versions were not included here on two discs, or that a buyer is not given the choice of either buying the full-screen or wide-screen version. At least, not in the "Sci-Fi Essentials" verson, put out by the SyFy Channel....)However, upon opening the DVD case, I was delighted to find a paper insert,to the left of the disc. This insert says, (in BIG lettering):********PREPARE TO BE SCARED.... To unlock the all-new spooky special features you won't find anywhere else, long on to [...] and enter the code at the bottom of the page.*********Oh, boy, I thought -- Easter Eggs! For those who don't know, "Easter Eggs" are extra little, (or not so little) features that makers of software sometimes put in, out of either boredom, or wanting to make themselves known...............or, more often, just to make themselves feel good, by the secret knowledge that putting these little "presents" into their software will make the buyers of thsi software happy! So, "Easter Eggs" are secret little "exras", which can be found only by entering the correct keys or key-codes. Usually, they are on software -- this is the first time that I, at least, have found them put onto a DVD!Excitedly, I put the web-address and "secret code", given on the paper, into my browser. And --------- wouldn't you know it, a page stating that "this promotion can no longer be found or is outdated", or words to that effect, came up. Talk about leaving viewers of this particular version of the "Flatliners" DVD, flat!Even though they originally may have been only promos for other movies, (for all I know), I was GREATLY disappointed not to find any "Easter Eggs", as promised -- and there was NOT even any experation date on the notice, to warn me that this might happen.Amd so, the biggest mystery of all, (for me and other "late buyers" of this DVD), remains to be -- WHAT did I miss in the special promo?Other than two screen-sizes for this movie, there are NO extras. No intrerviews, no commentary, no "making of" featurette. There is ONE still from the movie on the back of the DVD. Although -- like most of the movie -- it is artistically and atmospherically shot, in it, Kiefer Sutherland's long coat hangs about him SO loosely, that it seems at first glance that he is wearing an outfit of clown's overalls: which, upon closer examination can be seen NOT to be the case.Although this movie IS suspenseful, I would not agree with the quote on the back, which was made by TV-critic Joel Siegel of WABC-TV, who said: "Susspense to die from! So exciting your heart might stop." No -- I don't think so....but to be on the safe side, I'd see this movie first, before letting any very sensitive friendsor relatives see it -- especially, any friends or relatives, (sensitive or not), who wear pace-makers.Is this movie different from the book? Well, I've ordered the book, and will see.I may not be able to report on the entire book....but I will try to read the last chapter or two, to see if there is any difference...,

This movie was filmed at Loyola University in Chicago, a Catholic research university run by Jesuits, an order of priests known for their devotion to education, science, history, etc. Science and religion; both words are carved into the stone face of the building where much of the movie’s action takes place. This is fitting because the film is partially an exploration of both these things and how they need not be mutually exclusive. The characters are likable and interesting, played by fine actors who make them feel real. They explore, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, atone for their wrongs, tell their stories and try to do better. That’s life in a nutshell, isn’t it? Indeed, this movie is about what it means to be human. We are, as Andrei Tarkovsky once pointed out, that which is scientific, spiritual and artistic. Those three things separate us from the animals. To deny a part of that “triangle” leaves one incomplete; not embracing the totality of the human experience. Am I overthinking it? Probably. But it says something that a movie about medical students exploring death can elicit within me such powerful thoughts and strong emotions. In addition to that, the film has some fantastic cinematography and taut storytelling. “Flatliners” is one of my favorites.

the concept of the movie is good, the execution of it not so much. the selection of actors are decent but odd.

Produced at a time when people were making movies like 'Jacob's Ladder,' 'Dead Again,' 'Defending Your Life,' 'The Piano,' 'Ghost,' and 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' -- and Gus Van Santa was putting some of Henry IV in 'My Own Private Idaho,' and Richard Linklater (as himself) recounts "having lunch with Tolstoy" in a dream in 'Slacker' -- you find this movie's a lot more worthwhile than you'd think, in retrospect. There are even shades of 'Ghostbusters' in it -- in that the characters, the protagonists, are errant students/scientists going their own way, leaning on the Academy for facilities but doing their *own* research -- the 'Omen' movies, Stephen King movies/narratives like 'Children of the Corn,' 'Stand by Me,' etc. Then you turn some Brat Packers loose -- even Billy Baldwin's more compelling and likable than you've seen him, Julia Roberts didn't do something this interesting until 'Erin Brockovich,' and Keifer Sutherland isn't just playing an aggrieved jerk or bad guy, but someone who's dark side, the dark streak that informs his performances, pushes him to a new level others won't try -- and they make references to dating mores of the '80s/'90s, Cabbage Patch Dolls, and "60 Minutes." Funny, but it's human life at the time -- and what counts for *consciousness* of those walking and breathing at the time. The efforts of the Beats, Burroughs and Ginsberg with their Yahe drugs and others, had a lot to do with this -- waking up consciousness from where you stood, not some chapel or ideology, not done Safe Space™ (necessarily *neutered*) ...Anyway. As anyone who's taken hallucinogenic drugs can attest (hand goes up, here!), having "trails" or "flashbacks" can endure for days afterwards -- it's not like you can put the cat back in the box so easily, once awakened (if the "cat" is "spirit," daywalking through the torpor of modern life -- which, not inconveniently for Modern Life, reinforces it with it's own rewards system; in this sense, the movie recalls, too, the 1985 Dennis Quaid vehicle 'Dreamscape,' but again, see the collected work of Burroughs and Ginsberg, Harvard grad. and Columbus drop-out, natch!). What we call "conscious life" had its own rules, and awakening consciousness too has its own entry and exit stages ... this is something we're still *learning*, as humans, that as simple as a hangover or rigorous as coming down from a performance on stage, there are procedures you can exhibit, observe, and follow if you want to sustain the "high," or, at least "the exalted view-point" ... such "acts of subservience were never taught in schools" as Robert Pollard says in a Guided by Voices song someplace.So.Parts of this movie are truly nerve-wracking, though at times it cuts away as though a part's missing -- it happens often though, so maybe this was on purpose?? Maybe it's the end of a reel, ha ha.Highly recommend. Will re-frame how you think about the movies you already see, and consciousness itself.(At least, it's a *starter program* ... )Two thumbs up!(Both of *mine*, anyway ... )Ha, ha!

Flatliner ist der Film von Joel Schumacher aus dem Jahr 1990. Der Titel ist eine Assoziation an "Flat Line" - Asystolie im Elektrokardiogramm, das Herz "steht", was sich in einer Isolinie zeigt. Nach einigen Minuten kommt es zum Hirntod.Die Medizinstudenten Nelson Whright (Kiefer Sutherland), Rachel Mannus (Julia Roberts), David Labraccio (Kevin Bacon), Joe Hurley (William Baldwin) und Randy Steckle (Oliver Platt) sind fasziniert, was nach dem Tod, wenn das Herz stehenbleibt, passiert. Besonders Rachel fragt im Rahmen ihrer Arbeit die Menschen über ihre Nahtoderfahrungen. Fast jeder berichtet über wunderbare Erlebnisse, über das Licht, die Stimmen. Sie sahen ihr bisheriges Leben, wollten nicht mehr zurück, weil es "dort oben" so schon war.Die fünf wollen das an ihrem Leib/Körper probieren. Einer wird mit Barbituraten, Kälte (sogar Kalium) bis zum "Herztod" gehen, die anderen vier dokummentieren (filmen) alles. Nach einiger Zeit werden sie dann den Körper erwärmen, mit Elektroschock (Defribillator) die Frequenz wiederherstellen und ihren Kollegen zurück in das Leben bringen/holen.Der erste ist Nelson. Er sagt schon am Beginn - "heute ist ein schöner Tag zu sterben". Das Experiment machen sie in ener alten Halle, sie haben sich alles notwendige beschafft (wo?). Nelson ist "tot" für eine Zeit. Mit dem Defibrillator und anderen Maßnahmen kommt er zu sich. Er erzählt den Kollegen aber NICHT die ganze Wahrheit, die Visionen, die er gehabt hat. Er sagt nur, es sei interessant...So geht das irrsinnige Experiment weiter. Joe sieht im Nahtoderlebnissen seine Liebhaberinnen, die ihn beschimpfen, weil er sie beim Sex gefilmt hat. David wird von einem Mädchen verfolgt, das er mit den Mitschülern gehänselt hat. Rachel sieht ihren Vater, der sich erschossen hat, hört ihre Mutter, die schreidend zu ihr sagt, es sei ihre Schuld.Als Nelson immer "komischer" wird, wissen die anderen, dass er ihnen nicht alles erzählt hat. Jeder von ihnen hat mit Dämonen zu kämpfen, an denen sie zerbrechen können. Keiner traut sch die ganze Wahrheit zu sagen. Die Angst wird lähmend und das Leben schwierig.Dann findet David das Mädchen aus der Schule, sie lebt mit ihrem Mann und der Tochter und ist ganz zufrieden. Er bittet sie um Verzeihung. Joe verliert seine Verlobte. Als sie ihn besucht hat, die sie Filme gesehen. Sie kann ihn nur noch verachten, weil sie jetzt sieht, wie wenig er die Frauen respektiert.Am schlimmsten geht es Nelson. Sein Gesicht ist voll von Narben, der Junge ist hinter ihm her, er schlägt ihn. Erst langsam kommt die Wahrheit über die Narben ans Licht. Und über den Jungen. Auch Rachel hat Probleme, bis sie ihren Vater genauer ansieht. Dann kann sie seine Worte hören.Als Nelson total ausflippt, will er das Experiment allein machen. Er gibt sich auf, meint, sein Tod wäre die gerechte Strafe für sein Verhalten als Kind. Er gibt sich die Medikamente und liegt... Die Gruppe findet ihn, beginnt mit lebensnotwendigen Maßnahmen... Ob ihnen das gelingt?Für mich ist der Film kein Horror, ein wenig Thriller. Schon immer gab es Leute, die sich für das Leben nach dem Tod interessieren. Und es wird sie immer geben.1975 erschien das Buch Life After Life von Raymond Moody, das ein Bestseller war. Moody befasst sich mit den Nahtoderlebnissen, er schrieb später noch andere Werke. Man könnte ihn UND natürlich viele Philosophen, Mystiker zitieren.Im Film werden einige Symbole fur das ewige Leben gezeigt, aber auch für den Tod.Die Studenten hatten hier fast eine Intensivstation gebaut, und das in einem alten Gewölbe? Das scheint mir nicht ganz glaubwürdig.Was mir imponiert, sind die Erlebnisse, die ALLE gehabt haben. Keiner wollte sterben, keiner hatte eine "schöne" Erfahrung oder nur teilweise. Fast alle waren mit ihren Schuldgedanken aus der Jugend konfrontiert. Und das gab ihnen zu denken. Besser jetzt handeln, wenn es noch geht. Den Leuten zu verzeihen, selbst um Verzeihung bitten. Rachel hat als einzige von ihrem Vater die Absolution bekommen.Man weiß, sie werden solche "wissenschaftliche" Sachen nie mehr machen. Ihnen ist zuviel wiederfahren. Alle können gute Ärzte werden, die das Leben schätzen, den Tod respektieren.Es ist kein schöner Tag zum Sterben, es ist auch kein guter Tag mit dem "Tod zu spielen". Er kommt, wenn es Zeit ist.Der Film ist typisch "amerikanisch". Man muß leider alles ausdiskutieren... Es wäre besser, einige Sachen können hinter dem Vorhang des Todes/Lebens bleiben.Aber, die Studenten haben etwas gelernt - spiel nie mit dem Gott, spiel nie Gott, ob du an ihn glaubst oder nicht. Das Leben ist ein Wunder und man sollte es RESPEKTIEREN.Vier Punkte, weil das Thema nicht trivial gedreht wurde!

Der Medizinstudent Nelson Wright versucht, mehrere seiner Kommilitonen für ein Experiment mit künstlich hervorgerufenen Nahtoderfahrungen zu gewinnen. Ihm sind dabei wissenschaftlicher Erfolg und der damit verbundene Ruhm wichtig. Neben Dave, der wegen einer unerlaubten Notoperation soeben für vier Monate suspendiert wurde, Joe und Randy bittet er auch Rachel um Unterstützung. Rachel interessiert sich für Nahtoderlebnisse und befragt bei jeder sich bietenden Gelegenheit betroffene Patienten nach ihren Erfahrungen.Als erster lässt sich Nelson eine Minute lang in den Zustand des klinischen Todes versetzen und wiederbeleben. Beeindruckt von dem Erfolg will auch Rachel in diesen Zustand versetzt werden. Doch Joe gewinnt das „Wettsteigern“ um die Länge des Zeitraums: 1:30 Minuten. Am nächsten Abend wird das Experiment durchgeführt, wieder gelingen Kreislaufstillstand und Reanimation.Die Versuche haben ungeahnte Nebenwirkungen für die Beteiligten. Nelson erlebt beängstigende Tagträume und zieht sich dabei Verletzungen im Gesicht zu. Ein kleiner Junge greift ihn mit Händen und Gegenständen an; während der Angriffe erkennt Nelson, dass es Billy Mahoney ist, dem er vor Jahren selbst übel mitspielte. Auch Joe wird von Erscheinungen verfolgt. Er sieht auf jedem Bildschirm anklagende Mädchen und Frauen, die er durch falsche Versprechungen in sein Bett lockte und dort ohne ihr Wissen filmte. Nelson und Joe reden nicht über ihre negativen Erlebnisse, sondern berichten nur von den positiven Eindrücken während des klinischen Todes.Nach Joe will Rachel in den Zustand des klinischen Todes versetzt werden. Doch Dave will es 2:20 Minuten aushalten und soll daher der Nächste sein. Als Atheist ist es für Dave weniger der Glaube an eine göttliche Begegnung als vielmehr der Wunsch, Rachel keiner Gefahr auszusetzen. Er beginnt, Gefühle für sie zu entwickeln und will sie schützen. Nelson beobachtet dies und reagiert eifersüchtig. Bei Dave misslingt die Wiederbelebung beinahe, erst nach über 3:50 Minuten setzt sein Herzschlag wieder ein. Auch bei ihm kommt es kurz darauf zu Tagträumen. Er wird von einer ehemaligen Klassenkameradin verfolgt, die er vor Jahren auf dem Schulhof gehänselt hatte.Nun setzt Rachel ihren Wunsch durch und will für fünf Minuten in den klinischen Tod versetzt werden. Doch Dave will abbrechen, als er die Nebenwirkung ihrer Experimente erkennt. Er macht Joe und Nelson Vorwürfe, da diese kein Wort von ihren negativen Erfahrungen erzählt haben. In Rachels Nahtoderfahrung erscheint ihr Vater. Dieser hatte sich erschossen, als sie fünf Jahre alt war. Seitdem fühlt sich Rachel schuldig an der Selbsttötung ihres Vaters. Nachdem sie bisher durch die Erzählungen über die Nahtoderlebnisse das Jenseits als positiv und erstrebenswert angesehen hat, bricht für sie eine Welt zusammen, als auch sie von der Erscheinung ihres toten Vaters heimgesucht wird und sie sieht das Leben nach dem Tod als sehr düster.Als Joe an diesem Abend heimkehrt, trifft er in seiner Wohnung überraschend seine Verlobte an. Sie hat die Videos entdeckt und löst daraufhin ihre Verlobung auf. Dave versucht, sich seinen Visionen zu stellen, und findet letztendlich das Mädchen, das er als Kind gehänselt hatte. Auf dem Weg zu ihr schließt Nelson sich ihm an, denn aus Angst und Verzweiflung vor Billy Mahoney will er nicht mehr alleine bleiben. Dave trifft das Mädchen von damals an; sie ist mittlerweile selbst Mutter und züchtet Blumen. Nach einem längeren Gespräch nimmt sie die Entschuldigung von Dave an und bedankt sich bei ihm für diese späte Klärung.Nelson beginnt, sich während seiner Tagträume immer heftiger selbst zu verletzen. Daher gibt Dave Nelson in die Obhut von Joe und Randy. Sie sollen ihm helfen, sich von seiner Schuld zu befreien: Sie sollen Billy Mahoney finden. Nelson führt sie auf den Friedhof und zeigt ihnen das Grab von Billy. Verzweifelt erzählt er, dass Mahoney durch seine Schuld gestorben ist und er daher keine Möglichkeit hat, um Verzeihung zu bitten. Nach dem Geständnis und der Ankündigung, er werde es wiedergutmachen, flieht Nelson vor seinen beiden Freunden mit dem Auto. Diese verständigen Dave und machen sich gemeinsam auf die Suche.Rachel bleibt allein zurück. Sie erinnert sich in einem Tagtraum daran, dass ihr Vater Drogen genommen hat. Sie erkennt ihre grundlose Selbstverurteilung und es kommt in einem Traum zur Versöhnung mit ihrem Vater. Kurz darauf ruft Nelson bei Rachel an und kündigt seine Sühne mit Billy Mahoney an. Er plant, sich in einen klinischen Tod zu versetzen und so seine Schuld an Billy zu büßen.Rachel, Joe, Dave und Randy hasten zu Nelson und versuchen, ihn zu reanimieren. An der Schwelle zum absoluten Tod schließt Nelson in einer Vision mit Billy Mahoney Frieden. In letzter Sekunde wird er von seinen Freunden zurückgeholt und erwacht.

Triller fantastique, réalisé par Joel SCHUMACHER et sorti en salles en 1990, il m’avait marqué par son sujet hors normes, très peu traité à l’époque, même si les productions qui traitaient du même thème, se sont rattrapées depuis.Déjà acheté en édition DVD, lors de sa sortie, je n’avais pas été très convaincue. J’ai enfin décidé de me le prendre en version Blu Ray, quel est le verdict ?L’édition BR est clairement supérieure à la précédente sortie DVD. L’image est digne du support HD, bien que le film étant assez ancien, 28 ans déjà, elle est superbe et nette, affichant beaucoup de détails et le contraste reste savoureux, le piqué est bien traité, pas de grain, sauf dans une ou deux séquences très courtes, lorsque l’on voit les personnages qui filment avec leur caméra, ce qui se passent devant eux, d’où une retranscription sur un fond gris des images. Le son n’est pas en reste, affichant une très bonne qualité d’ensemble, que ce soit au niveau de la musique, mettant parfaitement en valeur la superbe musique composée par James Newton HOWARD, qui met encore plus dans l’ambiance, ou bien au niveau des dialogues, qui sont très bien maitrisés, notamment en ce qui concerne la Version Française, qui est très correcte, mais ma préférence va à la Version Originale avec Sous-Titres Français, plus riche et plus dynamique. Mais chacun fera selon son choix. Il est vraiment dommage de ne retrouver aucun bonus.Maintenant, le film en lui-même. Pour ceux qui ne le connaissent pas, voici son synopsis.Nelson Wright, un brillant étudiant en médecine, réussit à convaincre quatre de ses camarades en faculté de médecine, à tenter une expérience dangereuse, afin de découvrir ce qui se trouve au-delà de la mort. Nelson, qui passe l’épreuve en premier, fait provoquer son propre arrêt cardiaque, durant une minute et se fait ranimer ensuite, il annonce qu’il se sent bien, mais qu’il ne peut décrire ce qu’il a vu. Le soir suivant, alors que Joe s’apprête à suivre la même expérience, en augmentant les risques avec un temps prolongé de coma, Nelson commence à avoir des hallucinations et voit un jeune garçon, qu’il a connu lorsqu’il était enfant. Troublé, il choisit de ne rien dire aux autres et de gérer lui-même cette situation bizarre.Dire que le film commence très fort, dès les premières minutes, est un euphémisme. Très vite, le spectateur se retrouve immergé dans ce thriller surnaturel, après une rapide présentation des personnages et de ce qui les motive chacun personnellement, afin de pratiquer une expérience aussi folle que dangereuse, par les très grands risques encourus. L’intrigue est riche et complexe, mais tout étant parfaitement expliqué, reste abordable par le plus grand nombre, aidé en cela par un scénario très solide et intelligent, qui déroule cette histoire pour le moins originale, où le suspense monte crescendo et se fait de plus en plus implacable, à mesure que le film avance, le rythme est fluide et ne faiblit pas une seule seconde, les événements et les retournements de situation s’enchainent, jusqu’à la scène finale, qui conclut le métrage de manière fort brillante.Excellent film, qui 28 ans après, n’a rien perdu de sa force et reste toujours aussi pertinent. Le sujet, toujours aussi intéressant, reste très fort et n’a pas pris une ride. Y-a-t-il quelque chose qui subsiste après la mort ? La question est vaste, mais passionne toujours autant de monde. Le film s’efforce de donner des réponses, par des moyens détournés, qui s’étendent plus sur un plan sociologique que spirituel, il s’adresse à tout le monde, aussi bien athée que croyant, il n’y a aucun prosélytisme et le spectateur découvre un très bon film fantastique, servi par des effets spéciaux détonants, qui bien qu’étant d’époque, servent à appuyer le propos du réalisateur.Tous les personnages font face aux conséquences de leurs actes présents et par répercussion, les actes qu’ils ont commis par le passé vont leur permettre d’être confronté à leur conscience, d’où émergent leurs peurs et à leurs angoisses les plus profondes. Ce qui se traduit à l’écran par des séquences très puissantes, d’une très grande force émotionnelle, insistant sur le ton dramatique de ce qu’ils ont fait, certains se retrouveront emprunts de culpabilité et devront faire le choix de la rédemption, d’autres regrettant de n’avoir pu dire au revoir à temps à l’être aimé, auront la possibilité de le faire, en retrouvant l’amour, la compassion et la force de pardonner, à ce moment clef de leur vie. Des thèmes universels, présents en chacun de nous, traités de manière habile et qui parlent à tous.Le casting, qu’il faut remettre dans le contexte de l’époque, en 1990, est alors composé par une nouvelle génération d’acteurs, pleine de promesse. Considérés comme des stars en devenir, ils deviendront par la suite des stars confirmées.Kiefer SUTHERLAND incarne Nelson Wright, le leader de la bande. Il livre une prestation impressionnante dans l’interprétation de son rôle, révélant un registre dramatique d’une rare intensité, surtout lorsque son personnage est confronté à son passé, revenant le hanter de manière physique. Bien que continuant sa carrière sur grand écran, le fils de Donald SUTHERLAND, confirmera son statut d’excellent acteur dramatique en incarnant à partir de 2001, sur petit écran, le personnage iconique de Jack Bauer, dans la série « 24 » (24 Heures Chrono en Français) qu’il interprétera durant 8 saisons complètes, jusqu’à sa fin en 2010, puis pour une mini-série en 12 épisodes, qui constituera la 9ème saison supplémentaire, en 2014.Julia ROBERTS incarne Rachel Mannus, seul élément féminin du groupe. Elle est réellement très convaincante et très crédible, dans son rôle d’étudiante en médecine pleine de détermination, afin de franchir le seuil de la mort. Les hallucinations qu’elle voit, ont un sens bien particulier pour son personnage, ce qui l’amène à montrer un aspect émotionnel très fort. Tout juste auréolé du succès mondial de la comédie « Pretty Woman » en 1990, qui la consacrera star aux yeux du monde entier, l’actrice enchaine les succès, qu’ils soient critiques ou commerciaux, dans les décennies suivantes. Encore aujourd’hui, elle fait partie des stars les plus populaires du cinéma américain.Kevin BACON interprète David Labraccio, psychologue et malin, il est le seul à comprendre ce qu’il se passe, après leur retour de la mort. Il délivre une très bonne performance dramatique et réussit à rendre les multiples facettes de son personnage, démontrant une belle palette d’émotions. Acteur éclectique s’il en est, il continue sa carrière aussi bien sur grand que sur petit écran, mais c’est à travers ce dernier qu’il incarnera le rôle de l’agent du FBI Ryan Hardy, dans l’excellente série policière « The Following », afin de traquer le tueur en série Joe Caroll, qu’il interprétera durant 3 saisons, de 2013 à 2015.William BALDWIN interprète Joe Hurley, devant bientôt se marier, il couche pourtant avec d’autres femmes. Il est très crédible dans son rôle de séducteur narcissique et réussit à faire passer toute une gamme d’émotions contradictoires. Le petit frère d’Alec a bien grandi, il continue de mener une double carrière, aussi bien au cinéma qu’à la télévision, où il enchaine les rôles, avec plus ou moins de bonheur.Oliver PLATT interprète Randy Steckle, le plus réfléchi du groupe. Il est très réaliste dans son rôle de médecin, qui tempère ses camarades, afin de leur faire prendre conscience du danger encouru et réussit à rendre son rôle authentique. Il continue à mener une carrière prolifique sur le grand écran, bien que ses rôles sur petit écran, le fassent plus remarquer, son dernier en date étant le Docteur Daniel Charles dans l’excellente série dramatique « Chicago Med » qu’il incarne depuis 2015 et auquel il fait de multiples apparitions régulières dans les deux autres séries dont elle est dérivée, « Chicago Police Department » et « Chicago Fire ».Ce « petit » Film devenu culte au fil des années, est également produit, par Michael DOUGLAS, immense acteur, qui est aussi un des meilleurs producteurs en activité depuis très longtemps et une fois de plus, il a visé juste. Servi par un très beau casting, représentant les stars montantes du cinéma américain de l’époque, les thèmes présentés font mouche et permettent au réalisateur controversé Joel SCHUMACHER, de renouer avec ce qu’il sait faire de mieux, un thriller intelligent et habilement mené, mixé avec un côté fantastique, teinté de séquences parfois angoissantes, aux enjeux élevés. Un petit bijou à découvrir ou à revoir.

Der Film beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema Nahtod-Erfahrung in Verbindung mit Schuld und Sühne.Soweit so gut. Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt und Julia Roberts!Das müsste eigentlich schon reichen.Ich kann diesen Film immer wieder gucken da er nicht alt wird. Man könnte ihn auch jetzt noch im Kino zeigen und es wäre ein Erfolg.Wer das Remake gesehen hat tut mir leid. Nichts geht über das Original.

Tolle Besetzung, sehr interessantes Thema und sehr spannende Action. Eine Gruppe Studenten spielen mit dem Tod um herauszubekommen, was nach dem Leben passiert. Sie finden Hinweise und Antworten. Manches davon verstört sie. Die Besetzung ist prima und auch nach 30 Jahren verliert der Film nicht an Intensität und Spannung. Wer den Film nicht kennt, hat etwas verpasst.
