The Legend of Cool 'Disco' Dan is a feature documentary narrated by D.C. native Henry Rollins that tells the story of Washington, D.C. in the 1980s through the eyes of D.C. graffiti legend, Cool 'Disco' Dan. Blending exclusive interviews with dozens of local and national celebrities along with archival footage, Washington natives offer the most comprehensive portrait to date on this critical decade. The development of Go-Go, D.C.'s distinctive style of urban music, racial tensions, crews, sensationalist media, crack, and graffiti are important pieces of this story.

Red Line to DC
Anyone who rode public transportation in DC in the 1980s and 1990’s (and maybe up to 2010) was most likely familiar with “Cool Disco Dan’s iconic tag. I rode the Red LIne from Silver Spring to downtown, and you could not travel more that 100 ft without seeing his tag. So when I saw this film was out there, I had to see who this guy was. Anyway, an amazing story of a very driven and regular guy, in a manner of speaking. But he wanted to be famous and he will be remembered by the people who saw his graffiti. Also a great film of the action in DC when it was known by two monikers. “Chocolate City” and “Murder Capital of the US”. Anyway, recommed this film to people from DC who remember that time and place.

Living in D.C. and the DMV in the late 80's and 90's this took me all the way back!

This is the epitome of DC culture in the 1980s and 1990s.
RIP Cool Disco Dan. I’m glad one of his last “tags” has been preserved outside the Wilson Building. He was as DC as Gogo and Mumbo sauce.

REAL DC
A very good look at Chocolate City when it was strong fun and VERY dangerous at the same time. There was more unity among neighbors and people in general. But also heart breaking to look back on the immediate effect of crack cocaine in the black community.....And a man with great talent searching for a identity....Also a great look back at go god " golden" era that has a very strong resurgence in a town that is becoming chocolate chip or chuck depending on what part of town you live in.With the go go being appreciated on a show by show basis...This is definitely worth purchasing to see DC.....this is not about Washington its about DC...the people
