Dated but filled in some gaps for me
I had watched some U-Tube and read some on-line posts but felt like I was missing something. Read through the book and really did not come up with anything new. Turns out there are no D-Star repeaters in Houston, Texas so I was doing it correctly but no one was home.

A gem, but losing luster with age.
It's a wonderful, complete and clear account of D-Star and all you can do with it -in 2009, with minor updating of radios listed up to 5 years ago. No revision or updating since.Useful? Yes! This is so well written that it is still current in principle, despite there being no mention of Kenwood radios, such as the TH-D74A/E. A modern account should give guidance with the various Zumspots and Raspberry Pi hotspots in frequent use today. There is also precious little about CHIRP or RT Systems programming utilities. The guide to reflectors listed is so incomplete as to be little use.For all this, the little book is the best you can buy, still. The considered opinion of KX4QC.

Great Overview of D-Star - Amateur Radio's Communication Technology
Several weeks ago I got into D-Star with the purchase of an Icom IC-80AD handheld. As soon as I ordered the radio, I decided to purchase a copy of the Nifty E-Z Guide to D-STAR Operation. The radio and the book arrived on the same day. While I was able to use the Icom software to program the radio right away, the Nifty Guide helped me to easily understand how to properly program the radio. But it's more than that, it discusses in very easy to understand terms how D-STAR operates. Not only that, the guide gives an overview on how to link and unlink reflectors, and how to use the DV Dongle for communication via a PC to the D-STAR network. You will also find an overview and how to use third-party software programs for D-STAR like D-Chat and D-RATS. I highly recommend this book to all new users of D-STAR and those amateurs considering moving to D-STAR.

Nifty E-Z D-Star Guide Explains it
I found this guide to be very helpful. Doesn't matter if it doesn't have info for newer radios. There is plenty of relevant information here. I am glad I purchased it.

Glad I bought this book for D-Star digital voice communications.
Helps me and my friend (both licensed radio operators) to better understand the latest techniques for the D-Star digital communications. Recommend it. Takes some time to read and understand as it covers not only using a transceiver, but some other internet access devices such as the DV Dongles (using just a DV dongle and a headset, or an HT D-Star transceiver) and some other software/internet access for local and long distance communications.

Nifty E-Z Guide to D-STAR Operation - Very Useful Book!
Excellent book that does a great job of explaining the nuances of DSTAR. It's a little outdated in terms of the radios used in its examples but is still a very useful tool, especially for someone new to DSTAR, but is still a good reference for those of us who have been working with DSTAR for some time. I have purchased several copies of this book over the past few years and have given them as gifts to friends just getting started with DSTAR and have recommended it to others. Feedback I've received from friends have been positive.
