Is there violence and sex in this? YES. It is also a holy text. Which makes it pretty epic reading. The Puranas are amazing books of the Devas, Asuras, Humans, and more in Hindu culture and in the framework of our universe. The Puranas discuss different lives, situations, and stories which have great meaning, show great humanity, and are also some extremely exciting reading. Especially the Shiva Purana.This is a wonderful translation and I highly recommend that anyone who just wants a good read take a look at it. Because no matter what your beliefs are or religion is, I promise you, if nothing else, this will be quite the engaging story for you to read! You will never be bored.

Ramesh Menon has done a fabulous job of translating the ancient Siva puranas in a form which is easily readable and understandable for the lay. Given that the true symbolisms associated with most of the mythological tales in Hinduism are occult in nature, this is indeed a fine piece of work that uncovers so much in a largely prosaic form. It would have helped if some of what is described could have also been accompanied by pictures or art forms to make the reading lot more interesting.

Some of the coition scenes narrated should be read with contextual nature rather than eroticism. It is not entire but surely gives an insight into the creator of all we see & don't see. A brief history of Timeless Siva.

I have heard many stories about Lord Shiva, and this was the first time I had read a book on Him. The Power and Grace of the Lord came out very well through Mr Menon's book. I also enjoyed the author's writing style. My Love and Respect for Lord Shiva increased immensely because of this book. Thank you Mr Menon.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is willing to dive deeper into Hindu mysticism. Go read this now.

The book is a must read for English readers who wants to know siva Purana but cannot read because of language barrier. It gives insight into many anecdotes of Siva which was not known to me.

I loved the book....It is something everyone who understands hindu deities must read...Just hope I can read the other puranas in similar fashion. The good news about the book is that during the translation, the book has not lost it's lustre...of course, it could have been arranged chronologically in some cases, but that would have destroyed the beauty of the narration. Overall, I would very strongly recommend this as a must-read. !!!

I’m no expert, but I found this to be a very engaging translation and the stories - from epic bloody battles to the divine romance between Shiva and Parvati - are fantastic.
