Not good for traveling
Pen is exactly what I wanted. But I only had it long enough to get it confiscated by the TSA… so, no long enough to show it off… yes, I am shaking my head..

Good pen. Heavy. CKRT branding a possible 'giveaway'
It's a pretty good pen, writes well. Solid metal construction means it'll have to go in the tray at TSA; the CKRT branding is front and center on the pocket clip, which may give it away to TSA as more than a pen. Consider painting / taping / removing the branding before you fly.Cap stays put over the pen. Also stays put on the back of the pen when you are using it as a pen.Long and solid enough to use one-handed as a pressure compliance device (ouch-bang-stick), but not so pointed or sharp to catch your pocket or tear skin easily.

So Far Very Happy With This "Tactical" Pen
I already owned the Smith and Wesson branded tactical pen. (I Believe that one is made by Taylor). It's a nice pen and would serve well as defensive tool but it wasnt very good for a pen. It required unscrewing the cap and screwing it back on the back (and then unscrewing from the back and screwing back on the front) This was a lot of extra you had to do just to use the pen and put it back in your pocket. I found myself not using the S&W pen as a pen due to this reason. The reason I went with this CRKT pen was near completely due to the fact you can just pop the cap off and it also pops on the back, no screwing involved. This makes this CRKT pen much more useful as a pen. The o-ring used to press fit the cap on is strong enough I feel confident it wouldnt pop off if i had to ever use the pen in a defensive situation. (the cap side is not pointed anyways)This CRKT pen also looks much less "Tactical" and doesnt scream tactical or weapon. I feel comfortable using this pen at meetings in my job ( a job which frowns upon self defense in all forms ) due to the fact it looks just like a nice pen.As a pen its great too, uses the excellent fisher space pen refills! The only draw back to this pen is the price. It's near double the price of most other offerings but I feel its well worth it. Its quality made and constructed with quality materials. My final verdict: Buy this pen at the higher price once and be done with it. Don't buy the cheaper offerings and then end up spending $40 or more down the road buying more pens for the same reasons I did.

Subtle, Solid, Reasonably Priced
If you're looking for a tactical pen that is subtle instead of screaming, "TACTICAL", this is the one for you. I've used it in professional settings without it attracting attention - to the casual observer, it looks like a regular pen. That said, it appears very capable of packing a blow when used for defense. I fortunately haven't had to use it in that regard, but taking jabs at some wood showed it will inflect damage. I was worried its smooth surface would slip in my hand, but I was able to hold it steady. Some don't like the slanted angle of the cap and at first I was skeptical of it, but I now prefer it as it gives an additional striking surface that, while not as damaging as the point, will still inflict pain. I also have a S&W tactical pen with a flat head on the cap, and while it's a bit more comfortable when pressed against the palm when punching, it's still gonna hurt some. My guess is if I ever do use this pen as a self-defense weapon, I'll be holding it in a grip perpendicular with my fingers and my thumb on the cap. The cap seals tight both closed and when writing and the clip seems strong. Like all of these pens, a slight drawback to those who want something low-key is that the makers tend to put their names on the clip, which is a big reason I don't like carrying a pen with "Smith & Wesson" showing. CRKT is less well-known, but it is stamped on the clip. Still, that's a minor drawback for an otherwise very solid pen.

An elegant and discreet tactical pen
This tactical pen is well made, writes nicely, and best of all it doesn't scream TACTI-COOL PEN! like some of the others. I still probably wouldn't risk taking it through airport security. It feels like it would work as an emergency glass breaker, but in the meantime it's getting plenty of use as a box opener. My only criticisms are that the cap is a bit loose and rattley when the pen is held in an ice-pick grip, and the barrel has a tendency to slide down the tip when clipped to a pocket. Otherwise, it's a great pen.UPDATED JAN 1st: After about 2 months of being regularly clipped to a pocket, the O rings securing the cap have dislodged and it won't attach to the pen.
