Better Than You

Great for teaching character education!
I loved this book because so many of my students could relate to this. It helps teach the characteristics of a true friend.

Reading experience could be better
Unfortunately the book needs to be read horizontally on the Kindle and the text is too small to be read without zooming in. It's a difficult experience for a child to manage. But the story is a good one, but something must be done about the formatting so it emulates the format and experience in my secret bully, by the same author.

Excellent
Worthwhile read for older boys 8-10 yrs. The illustrations are gorgeous and bring the realistic aspect of boys being mean to each other to life. One of the best books out there!

Love it!!
I am a school counselor and have had the priviledge of Trudy visiting our school twice. Her books are always straight to the point (on tough topics) and well written. When I read her books to group of students, you can hear a pin drop... they are captivated by her ability to connect on issues that are often difficult to put your finger on.Better Than You does not disappoint, in fact, I can't wait to read this with my own children and plug it into classroom lessons in the next couple of weeks. So grateful for all of Trudy's dedication to quality literature based on felt needs of children today!I would recommend purchasing all of Trudy's books for proactive parenting. :)

Good story.
The point got across, and this book is good for a discussion starter. I wish, however, that it would have included more depth. Because the main character did not experience much (not enough drama), the connection with the story could be lost for a child reading this himself without an adult leading him in discussion about it. I am an elementary school counselor and I am successful using this book in small groups and mediation sessions.

good story for children about sportmanship, empathy and bragging
Interesting and great book for my elementary school granddaughters. We are trying to teach them empathy and sportmanship. This story about the boy that thought he was better than his friends at everything, and made his friend feel bad with his bragging is just perfect.

Awesome book!
This was an excellent book to kick off our "Building Strong Readers" unit in fourth grade. Highly recommend this book as a read aloud.

Book Read
We reviewed this book for a parent-child book read. It was very good but we decided to go with "Confessions of a Former Bully" by the same author.

great book
Good story and beautiful illustrations. This book has helped my son to reflect upon his on bragging and dominating behaviour. It is lovely to see him identifying with Tyler (the main character), recognising the feelings that other children may nurture towards him (my son). He has become a lot more empathetic towards others and is even using sentences he learned in the book.

Nice.
I was surprised at just how much my kids (5+9) liked hearing this read to them. There's a few words that need explaining and slow it down a bit. Now when I say "pufferfish" to my son he knows he's starting to push us away with his bragging.
