Figment: Alice Wonder 2 (Insanity)

Fun romp into insanity, and I'll gladly go along.
I read through this one twice! I liked this story. The first time I read it, I read through the first book first and then read the second, and then the second time I read it through on its own.I'm already a Jace fan, so naturally I will like the story. But here's what I think improved Insanity 2 over Insanity 1 -Good: Alice is becoming a fully fleshed out character. She's taking some of her own initiative now, including a fun little sidebar during the story. She figures out some of her circumstances (even though the Pillar whines about it LOL). I loved the tie in of a contemporary issue (obesity and overeating) with references and history from the past, showing how a serial killer like the Muffin Man doesn't just develop overnight. I also loved bring Lewis Carroll into the story more, coming *this* close to being like a "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer" type character. Because I always thought as a child that there was more to what Charles Dodgson was than just an ordinary writer, mathematician, and photographer. (Personally I think it would be hilarious to bring his alter ego, the Dodo, into the story).I also appreciated how Fabiola is becoming more nuanced as the White Queen, rather than the "all good, all innocent" version that Anne Hathaway placed in the Disney movie.Bad: We never find out how the Muffin Man stuffs heads into watermelons :-) The Pillar has trouble with this new, more confident Alice, and he sometimes reads as annoying vs. the crotchety old caterpillar that he is. There's also a big hanging end that isn't resolved by the end of the book about the Red Queen - not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion, but some might find it annoying to have to wait until February for Insanity 3 to learn more.

Old story new twist
He is so creative and I love how he twists an old story and made it something new.

Now for why I love this book
The only reason that I am giving this four stars instead of five is due to the grammar and typo issues that are spread throughout the book. As I mentioned in my review for Insanity (Book 1), the writing style in a couple chapters is a little off but does not deter from the book itself too much. One other issue that I have with the book is the inconsistency with British English and American English. At some points, Cameron feels that he needs to make a distinction for American readers on British vocabulary. For example, he points out that football is what Americans refer to as soccer. At other times, he does not clarify what an object is if you are not familiar with the British Language. He is also inconsistent with the use of the imperial and metric systems. Now for why I love this book. I enjoy books that have their own spinoffs off of other books. I especially enjoy on how Cameron uses historical facts to bring the book to life even more. The riddles and the journey that Cameron takes Alice on is a joy in of itself and makes the book an interesting fun read.Pros:Historical FactsSpinoffFun readCons:Grammar IssuesTyposWriting style in a couple of chaptersInconsistent use of British and American references (language, measurement)

Awesome sequel! Can't wait for book 3!
Cameron Jace has done it again...written another book that I absolutely couldn't put down! This sequel to Insanity finds Alice back in the asylum, wondering if her adventures to stop the Cheshire were real or just in her head. The Pillar gets Alice called back into his puzzles and mysteries as London's kids are being killed, and their heads are somehow being stuffed into watermelons. Another one of Wonderland's Monsters is on the loose and it's possible that he's even worse than the Cheshire was. While I was briefly disappointed that this book didn't have as much travel or contain as many puzzles as Insanity did, Figment more than makes up for it as more details are given into the possible Wonderland Wars and the motives of the Monsters themselves. I also enjoyed learning more of the backstories of some of the Wonderlanders who have found themselves in the "real world". Unexpectedly, I found myself empathizing with the so-called "villains" as I learned what turned them into the "monsters" they've become. All in all, this sequel held it's own against the first book and made me very excited that the third book is already out so that I don't have to wait.Β Figment (Insanity Book 2) (Insanity (Mad in Wonderland)) (Volume 2)

Madding entertainingly good
I gave figment insanity book 2 four stars because like the first I really enjoyed the twist on Alice in wonderland I was guessing the whole book on what was real and what was not real for Alice Wonder I like that she was losing her mind after her ordeal but her desire to help and save people made me more drawn to her character I couldn't truly tell if pillar was on her side or not even if he mostly seemed like he was helping her every step of the way I dislike the puzzles and how un flushed out all the characters were I mean what was her life before the accident and did it really drive her insane like that I felt like there wasn't enough backdrop to her past even if she didn't know why or how could the wonderlanders know so much and question if she was the real Alice from Wonderland overall good read well worth looking into for everyone not of all ages though adult references in the book

+++++++There will be spoilers in this review++++++++ Firstly I loved this book
This is actually 4.5 Stars. Would have been 5 but a few little things stopped me from fiving it.+++++++There will be spoilers in this review++++++++Firstly I loved this book!I read it in a day the story was interesting and i was really invested in the characters.I loved that the continuation of relationship between the Pillar and Alice was was true to the first book and I'm still unsure what his deal is, can alice trust him? I don't know but i love him either way!I would of liked a bit more description in the book, I think that if situations sights, smells, colours noises etc where described in a bit more detail it would really add a lot of this book. I wanted to know how Alice's dress looked, what the children where wearing back in Victorian England and more about the smells, building etc etc. However saying the above I was really glad that the killings and be-headings/poisonings weren't detailed or overly descried and that was appreciated very much!I loved the situation Alice now finds herself in with Jack - I would of liked a bit more back story about their relationship as I feel that all I know is they loved each other but not so much about how the relationship worked - I sense this is going to be unraveled in the next book however and am excited for that!Overall I thought the plot was extremely well thought out with lots of time put into it with I imagine a lot of research done into the history of Carroll and England its self. A few things showed up which highlighted that this was not a British writer such as - we don't generally call our mothers "mom" here nor have i ever seen a twinkie for sale ( :P ) but that made me appreciate more the amount of work that must have gone into this book :)To sum up it was a great read, I was interested through out and I will definitely recommend it. Cant wait for the next one!

Figment
I love the way you're cooperating facts about Lewis life and points about history in the makingI really enjoy history and combining It to fantasy book is making it a pleasurable readI like the way ask Alice is struggling to come to turns with what is fantasy and reality it comes across how our brains cope with information it processes and how it deals with its own need for something you want so badly to be real

Alice
This book is great if you are a lover of fiction and fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed the first, the second piqued my interest more and I can't wait for the third. This author is great at bringing fact into the fantasy world. It makes you think that what you thought was real may not be. Or what you thought was fantasy, may be absolutely true. Madness can be a good place to be.

Still an interesting series...
I enjoyed this book, but not quite as much as the original. It is a quick, page-turning, nonsensical read! The characters are developed much more, especially the mystical Jack Diamonds, but there aren't as many fact-based riddles, which is what a truly enjoyed in the first book. This said, my interest is still peaked, and I look forward to reading the next instalment.

We're all mad here
Another fantastic offering from Cameron Jace, I can't wait for the next instalment. Alice again works with Pillar in a darker adventure than book 1. Based on true facts, Lewis Carroll s work and a massive dose of clever imagination, the book holds your attention from start to finish. Please hurry up and write more!
