A Darker version of Anne of Green Gables
I knew that LM Montgomery had written many other books, but it wasnt untill a recent prolonged illness that I started looking around for them. Emily has a grim life. Kittens are drowned, her dad dies, mom died long ago, and her judgy relatives actually despise her so much that they draw straws to see who is stuck with her.I knew that Victorians and Edwardians had strong senses of classism and propriety, but had no idea it was as personally crushing as it was. People depicted are pretty much doomed to stay at their level, and cruelty such as poisoning beloved pets, the above mentioned kitten drowning, and a lifetime of loneliness because your " beau" was beneath you are just every day things.there is one kind aunt, and a cousin, but the rest of them are grim. it all goes well in the end, but plenty of hardship pays for it. As an adult I found it interesting, and I enjoy history. made me happy to have been born in the 20th century. I'd be cautious handing it to a third or fourth grader, I might read along with her to explain that things have changed and why and how, because it can be a bit bleak.

I've always loved this book since I was little and it still enchants me even now. I hope you love it too.

Well-written, good old-fashioned story
If you loved Anne of Green Gables, you'll probably love Emily of New Moon. L.M.Montgomery again creates a memorable girl-- an orphan who finds a new family, a creative, brave, and likable soul. She's surrounded by other memorable characters. Fun and worthwhile.

Poor edition
No images and poor separation between the books. Several spelling errors and HORRIBLE footnotes that aren't actually at the bottom of the page

Cool Mom points!!
This series was a favorite of my daughter's when she was in grade school. She mentioned them right before her birthday so I surprised her. She loved it!!A great moment in my parenting career! Whoo hoo!

It’s an omnibus!
For some reason, I was thinking this was a set of three books; but it’s actually an omnibus. It’s quite nice, actually, though the print is somewhat small.

Worth the read!
Bought this for my grand-niece, as my mom had given me the original set she once got...every bit as good as Anne of Green Gables.
