I assumed these were actual reclaimed wood, based on reading the history of the company. I went back and re-read the full description. It may lead one to think this is authentic, but it is fresh pine, nicely finished to give the impression it is old reclaimed wood. Looks good though. We just build a new custom home, and the builder brought back and entire barn they had disassembled in PA that was 120 years old. We had an entire accent wall in the great room done with this real antique wood, this mantle is not the real thing, but thats OK, it looks great. We are using it under a covered lanai in SW Florida over a outside gas fireplace. It does what we wanted.The mounting is another story. We mounted on a outside stucco wall. The bracket that is supplied is a great idea, just not executed well. It’s simple to hang, but the bracket itself is thin and flimsy. If the steel used was a bit thicker, it would be great, but the mantle once installed per directions does not feel solid against the wall, and we were not confident putting any weight on it. As a side note, the mounting metal was thin enough, as I got a nasty cut about 3/4” across on my thumb from handling the bracket, so use caution there. It’s like a paper cut.Remedy to the flimsy mounting bracket was about $15 in hardware and a can of spray paint from Lowe’s, or your local hardware. Great industrial look using turnbuckles, eye screw, and rope hanger bracket. Drilling for the eye bold screw, the wood is soft pine. You’ll see how this came out in the photos, now you can put anything on the mantle.

I’d been apprehensive about installing this mantel on my brick fireplace. But it was actually easy to do. Drilling into the brick was the hardest part. I recommend a hammer drill to do that. But the hardware supplied worked great and the rail installation system was easy to use and is working fine.As I said, I was nervous about the installation, but Marilyn answered my texts and emails quickly, which was reassuring.See the before and after pictures!

If you can spring for real quality, you'll find it here. These shelves are the closest you'll find to permanent structures, as I'd love to take them with me if I move, but they are so large and so securely placed that I think it would be criminal to try to move them. I got the largest ones available and they are like smoothed out railroad ties on my wall. It's awesome. I'll add a photo soon.

I rarely leave a review, so this is a big deal. I spent a lot more time preparing for this install than probably necessary.I installed the mantel into brick over my fireplace. I sent Joel’s a message stating this and they included a drill bit for masonry and the inserts needed.The instructions were very clear and installation was very fast. I drilled the holes., put in the inserts, screwed the bracket to the wall and attached the mantel. Done. It’s quite sturdy. Certainly sturdy enough for what I’ll put up there.Total install time was about a half hour, and I took it slow.I got the gray color and against the beige colored bricks it looks like it’s always been there.

We updated our fireplace during a remodel and needed a mantle. Most were 10" deep and 72" wide, which we felt was too large for our space. This mantle is perfect. The finish is beautiful- rustic but not beat up. The color is great. Our remodel crew installed it in minutes and it seems really sturdy. Awesome to find this beautiful American-made product. Highly recommended!!

I ordered the 78 inch floating shelf in mocha. The quality and color were exactly what I had envisioned and looks great above my new gas fireplace, especially in contrast with the split stone panels I installed around the fireplace. I was a little skeptical when I felt the weight of the shelf and saw the mounting bracket but after installing it, it was surprisingly very solid and secure. I would have liked to have the option of special ordering a 79 inch shelf as that was the true length I needed, however, the half inch on either side is negligible and it still looks fantastic.

Real wood and Nicely finished. Heavy piece. Correct installation required to make sure it does not collapse. You MUST watch the you tube video to be successful. Installation is easy to screw up. Use strong wall fasteners not the regular junk typically included. Good luck

Outstanding and simple system for mounting to the wall. I called them with questions about mounting on brick and they could not be more accommodating. And we love the shelf! AND yes, it is as sturdy as they claim because of the mounting. The shelf itself is high quality and naturally "worn" but not too much...just the right balance. Would highly recommend this item to anyone considering it for their fireplace.
