The most important fact about this book is that it is written for England and Britain. The building codes they mention are British, and not for the United States. This book pushes you to build your own composting toilet, and has limited yet useful info. about some models of composting toilets you can buy. I found this book useful in an introductory manner. There is a composting toilet text available used on Amazon that is written for the U.S. I bought this British book since it was a new copy. People needing info. on U.S. building codes may be better served with the U.S. text.

Nobody "loves" the toilet situation at an off grid retreat location, but until you have had to use one of those overly complex commercial composting toilets and seen the crazy prices on them, you will not appreciate these plans for glorified outhouse toilets. The book pretty much fully explains crude sanitation methods using available current technology and methods.

He did not get caught up in the minutia of the science...good stuff.

I hate to admit it but this is my husband's bedtime reading. Having bought a remote cottage miles from anywhere the only option is a composting toilet and this this book has given him all he needs to know. I have even research further on the Internet and the history of composting toilets in fansinating. I don't believe I am writing this, but it's true it is part of our history dating back to the 1800's. Fabulous book.

This is a useful, practical book which points out many things we would not have thought about otherwise. If you are planning on installing a compost toilet then this is definitely worth a read.
