Embracing Diversity In the Face of Homogeny
I lost this CD several years ago and had to reorder it from Amazon. In 2003, I value more now than ever Hisham's inspirational, innovative music. He blends New Age synthesizers with a unique taste of his own culture in such a exquisite way, truly he bridges the gap of both worlds in this cd. I hope Hisham would produce more New Age albums, for his talent in melding different musical styles is remarkable. We need more New Age artists from all around the world to open our minds to different worlds, and I felt like Hisham accomplished that in this cd. Maybe one day, we will be able to respect our differences and embrace our similarities, and if music can be that medium, Hisham and other artists like him are going in the right direction. Please, stop acting out today the centuries of violence and aggression from our human history. Keep our minds open to the world, for we have much to learn from it. And to the people of Iraq, I appologize to all of you for what the United States has done and will do with your country. You did not deserve this, especially from a President that I feel does not represent the United States. Peace to all, and let us all also embark on a journey of peace, not war. Just as Hisham dedicated this cd to the children who suffered in the conflict of the Balkans in his song Sarajevo, I would like to dedicate Somewhere in a Dream, as a fan of Hisham and his music, to all the children of Iraq and the countless more that suffer in the name of the deceitful war on terrorism. I'm sorry to all of you, this is not how this century should have begun.

Dreamer's music indeed....
I had this item when I ordered it from before, and I literally carried it around with me and listened to it quite frequently as it had one track from another compilation album that I had heard and liked immensely, "The Rose and the Stone".However when I got this album for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the whole thing so I played it quite often. When it got damaged, I was also glad to find a replacement, although I wasn't sure I would. It is to me, a wonderful blend of culture without being too "way out" there. Nice, often fast paced, more geared to meditation, but with a dancing beat that keeps one from being bored. It is one album I hope to keep for a very long time.

Fantastic rhythmic new age with Middle-Eastern feel.
This is a great rhythmic new age CD produced and largely played by Mars Lasar. A very distinct middle-eastern feel on most songs. The melodies are very strong and the production is superb. If you like this album, check out Mars Lasar’s CD 11:02. Also., the CD A Whisper Across the Sand by Ayman, Hisham and Mars Lasar. Super collection.

I wish I knew more about Hisham's history
... is he an Arab with Western musical schooling? An Arab who grew up in the US or Europe and absorbed its influences? A composer who just listened to, and liked, a lot of styles of music? Whatever his sources, this is fine music, blending Arabic and Classical/New Age styles. I can, and do, listen to it over and over.

New Age meets the Middle East
First off music reviews is no place for political views as the last reviewer has done. Exotic Middle Eastern textures join modern comtemporary instrumental music. Using synthesizers, samplers and sound effects, his very full bodied sound is much like another artist on this label Ayman. Very much a full bodied soundscape in the vein of David Arkenstone, even David has used the feel of the Middle East as a vehicle. Combing the stunning power of New Age music filled with powerful soundscapes and fiery Arabic percussion help create the sound that is Hisham. A real nice blend of world & New Age music. Fans of Ayman will be right at home here.

Not bad for a debut...
I have known Hisham since the late seventies...He was the largest influence in my musical tastes, I have to admit. When I knew he was doing the music thing, I knew I had to buy his albums and listen for myself. It's not bad; anyone who enjoys music and progresses from listening to writing/recording music deserves respect. I think this album has a couple of good tracks on their own, but much of it is more in tune with background music. Personally I prefer the second album. Will there be a third? Who knows...
