Love 'em!
I have a short-scale Ibanez bass with passive pickups. The sound was ho-hum and I was looking to add some punch. I put in the EMG PX/LJX set and couldn't be happier. The install was a breeze with the new wiring harnesses. Absolutely NO soldering involved if you can use the included 1/4" jack. I had to buy a longer jack to go through the sidewall of the bass and had to solder a wee bit there. But otherwise a breeze to install and they sound GREAT!A few weeks later I purchased the EMB BQC System and installed it myself. That was a little harry as I had to do some routing to make space for the larger control boards and batteries, and the BQC system still uses soldered joints. After combining the PX/LJX pickups with the BQC controls all I can say is "WOW!" (Actually I said shouted quite a bit more happy expletives when I first plugged it up and tested, but I gotta keep it PG-13 here. :))In short, if you want to expand your bass sound you can't go wrong with these pickups. When I do upgrade to another bass you better believe I'm pulling them out and taking them with me. :)

Watch them pots before installing
Not sure if its a seller issue of a EMG issue but some of the pots are screwed up from the new. Wasn't until I installed them and had them in place that I found out two of the three pots are faulty. Definitely took my excitement wind out of my sails. The install wasn't hard at all, as far as my luck in these matters, its never as easy though. My Spector NS2A needed some of the material removed on the pickups. A dremel tool took care of that issue. The input jack wasn't very snug either, my guitar cord "pops" a bunch... making the electronics go on and off. When cranked up loud, ...that pop is even louder. Because of that popping and the two faulty knobs, and the mods needed to the pickups, I am stuck with it and needless to say, haven't played my bass since. Bummed out.Make sure the pots cant turn all the way continuously before going any further. Im done messing with it and shouldn't have to buy new ones but like I said...im over the EMG urge

the brand is excellent, it worked great
the brand is excellent, it worked great. But the downside was it didn't came with all the necessary cables, as specified in the product manual.. it came with only one pickup cable (It requires two, one for the P and the other for the J pickup) so i was forced to "build" one myself

Exceptional tone, zero noise
Everything you come to expect from EMG. I have a Mitchell CB300 Bass with some aftermarket parts. When I blew up a P pickup a few months ago I threw the set from my old squire Fender in it and it sounded ok for awhile, but the d and g strings were just dead and flat sounding. No amp adjustment could get the sound right, it just sounded like those strings were out of tune..New strings confirmed that it wasn't a slipped core so I decided to replace the pickups rather than buy a new bass. I've got tuners and a bridge invested in the bass already, might as well..The tone is now a complete turnaround and I've come to realize that I've developed a bad habit of plucking those two strings heavily to get a ring out of them. The tone is now even acrossed the strings, definition and clarity flawless with no audible hiss or noise at all like the previous bridge pickup was good for. I will invest in the active EQ in the next month or two after I recover from Christmas, but the supplied parts worked for setting up a two volume, master-tone circuit that sounds pretty good. Install was a bit more work for me, I had to use a Dremel to shave a millimeter or two off the pickup cavity to get my pickups to fit. The original pickups were literally hammered in place, no lie..I had to use a knife to carefully pry the bridge pickup out..I used a straight sided cutting bit and removed the paint and a 64th" or so of wood all around to give the pickups a business card thickness of clearance, and I reused the foam pads and springs from the fender pickups for underneath. A piece of the EMG packing foam to go under the bridge pickup, what was left under that one was paper thin and compressed. I used a black sharpie to "paint" the top 1/2 inch or so of the raw wood and wiped some clear acrylic gloss on the edge with a Q-tip..My Bass is black so hiding the thin visible wood line was easy. My heavy metal knobs don't fit the new pot's, so I'll order a set once I get the EQ installed and can match them all at once. All told, these pickups could make a shovel sound good.

exceeded my expectations
I was looking for some pickups to make an inexpensive bass sound as good as it could, and certainly achieved just that with this purchase. Installation was a breeze (just remember to strip the foam spacers from your existing pickups and use them with the new ones). The wiring setup was easy and allowed for a few different configurations. These pickups provide a buzz-free, even and crispy sound at one tonal range, and an equally balanced, rounded sound at the other end of the tonal range. These have a crispier sound than Bartolinis, I certainly prefer the EMGs, and I'm glad I went with them. The Bartolinis don't come with a quick-connect setup like the EMGs do.They also are very handsome. Combined with a new set of strings, one can make any P/J bass look and sound many times better.

OMG!!! What a difference over the passive pickups i started with. It came with needed pots (but didnt know when i ordered). I also ordered EMG's BTC system to go with this. Swapping out on my yamaha bass was fairly easy. I have been playing my bass with the treble and bass in neutral position and it sounds great. Tweeking the boost up and it gets better.
