Recording Studio Design (Audio Engineering Society Presents) 3rd Edition

Since I knew nothing about audio studio design or listening area design these were all new to me. They do a nice job of treating the subject with both history, math, and physics. Those are the things that make up acoustics and what you have to learn. So they get five stars. These books all overlap but each is a refresher and builds on the next. So none of them are a waist. You could do with just one or two but I don't honestly know which ones I would pick.

An excellent guide to understanding the elements that go into recording studio design and construction. It has a good balance between technical/scientific considerations while still being understood by home studio enthusiasts. Definitely recommend reading this before spending money on construction/isolation/sound control-proofing so you can achieve better long term results, avoid problems, and hopefully save money. It might inspire you to go in a different direction than what you originally considered, but you will be better off for it. It is worth the cost.

This thing is dense! But incredible. Has my head spinning with ideas and considerations about studio design. You will need to be willing to get technical, but if you want to involve yourself in studio design you should have known that was necessary.

This book has excellent information about planning, building and improving your recording studio, It is a serious book for people who really wish to dig deep in musical production. It's easy to understand and will give You the correct ways to do things so you don't spend money building and repairing the mistakes. I agree, this book is a Must Have.

Many of the diagrams are too small/low resolution to be read clearly. The glossary is mostly unreadable, with badly formatted overlapping columns of text, etc. Other than those two beefs, this is one of the most valuable references I've read. I learned quite a bit!

Good source of information, but who thinks of building a state of the art studio will just well thought out and not a complete argument ...

This book has it all, and Philip's bibliography would fill my library. An excellent resource and final word on what's what and how to do it right. A must have!

This is THE primary source for studio design, although not for the beginner. Well worth the money.
