Theory of Elastic Stability (Dover Civil and Mechanical Engineering) 2nd ed. Edition

In summary, excellent for a beginners understanding in graduate level plate buckling, column buckling, energy methods, etc. I used it more for plate buckling rather then columns and shells, however still packed with useful information. Also, many professors use the problems from this book on exams, so it's a great study guide as well. I used this book for a graduate course in structural stability. It can be very technical at sometimes, and has an abundance of information, that probably won't apply to you, however when I found myself struggling with a topic, and the professors notes and required textbook didn't help at all (a lot of times they didn't) this book covered a lot of what I was missing! A lot! I found myself using it more than the assigned class textbook. And for the price, it's worth it to give it a shot!

I actually have this book in electronic version. But I think it is definitely worth to have in hardcover. Thank you so much this neatly reserved book and your kind handwritten memo. I will reserve this for my life!

I learned mechanics of material during under graduate school study with Timoshenko's textbook.The book was excellent. This book is another masterpiece of Timoshenko.I am now researching on film deformation. The book gave me insight to the physics on film deformation and the is plenty of formulas to be directly used in real engineering situation.If you need a deeper edition of Timoshenko's book, this is for you.

While the text itself is valuable, there are many typos in what appears to be an automated conversion from the hard copy format to the kindle edition. Hopefully you can follow math with typos.As is common with many kindle textbooks, the resolution on figures leaves much to be desired, and it is difficult to zoom in on a figure or equation that is formatted too small.

As a professional engineer I found this book to be very informative. It does not have example problems, but in practice I use code based analysis. This book gave me a deeper understanding of where the code came from.Personally I just wanted to know concepts to keep in mind while I am designing. This book is perfect for that. I am a more recent graduate, and had no problem following the math or concepts.Timoshenko is a great author, I plan on buying his plates and shells book after I finish this one.

O livro não há comentários, a única observação é que eu comprei a versão digital e no kindle as imagens não aumentam, aí dificulta um pouco. Quanto ao livro não há o que dizer é um clássico, todo engenheiro de estruturas tem que ler.

The fact that this book is still (2022) in demand, even 61 years after its last edition, leaves nothing else to say or write about it.For a stress/structural/design engineer, this book provides the base of the theory of this subject. It comes directly from the father of modern engineering mechanics, Timoshenko, hence pure and pristine contents.Thanks to Dover for keeping the high quality printing and not converting it to OCR/EPUB/etc., which could have destroyed its readability (the text is very rich in mathematical equations and expressions).

Es un libro magnífico y aunque llegó desde EUA, llegó rapidísimo y en excelentes condiciones. Volvería a comprar libros de está manera, y lo mejor es que resultó en un excelente precio, tanto el producto, cómo del envío.

La materia está demasiado apretada tipográficamente, para ahorrar espacio y papel. Letra pequeña, pero responde al conjunto del contenido del original que recordaba. Se puede consultar perfectamente. Lo considero una buena adquisición, aunque haya textos más modernos, didácticos, de muy buena calidad. Los clásicos tienen valor por si mismos, incluso sentimental.
