Useful multi-function hub for MacBook Pro - but poor reliability on connections
Update after 3 months of daily use: USB-C connectors to attach the modules to the base section of the hub are very flaky, as other reviewers have noted, meaning that your Ethernet connection can suddenly be disconnected (not good in the middle of a Zoom call!). Also, the two USB-A ports on the hub have failed after 3 months, so I will be switching to one of my other hubs. A pity, since I had high hopes for this hub, but the connectivity and reliability issues drop the rating from 4 stars to 2 stars.______This is one of the most useful multi-function hubs that I have tried (and I have tried a lot!). The modular design is clever and useful, not just for the flexibility it offers in terms of connections to the hub itself, but also the fact that the separate modules can be used to add functionality to other USB-C ports on the MBP.The following notes may be useful to consider:1) It shows that it can be connected to either the left or right side of a MBP. As a previous reviewer has noted, if you put the hub on the right side it ends up elevating the MBP on that side since the USB-C connections are vertically offset on the edge of the hub, rather than being centered. If you keep it on the left it fits flush on the edge of the Mac. This is also important for a MBP 13" since the left hand USB-C ports have full speed ports, versus the right hand ports. (The ports on a 15" MBP apparently aren't limited in this way, but the physical issue in terms of elevating the right side is still an issue.)2) The vendor's web site states there is an 18 month warranty, but the enclosed documentation with the product only states a 12 month warranty.3) The website also says not to leave the hub connected if you put your Mac to sleep. There is no mention of this in the provided user doc.4) There are no activity lights on the RJ45/Ethernet connection.5) The add-on modules may lose connection since they are relying on the USB-C plug on the ends of the hub to stay in place.6) One thing I really like is that the SD card reader can be oriented so that an SD card is inserted facing up, whereas the majority of hubs require that the SD card is inserted upside down (i.e. the contact side of the card), which is inconvenient if you have any labels or identifying marks on the face of the card.Other than these minor points, I am impressed with the unit, which seems to be well-built and designed. There are equivalent hubs sold under different brand names, but they appear to be essentially the same as this.

Not designed for the MacBook Pro 2017
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) and I'm sad to report that this hub is a terrible fit for my device. When inserted on the left side of the MacBook Pro, the USB-C male ports on the hub are about 2mm too low. When inserted, the whole hub floats. I am NOT going to ruin my $2000+ laptop with by bending my ports with a forgetful resting palm. When inserted on the right side of the MacBook Pro, the USB-C make ports on the hub are about 2mm too high. Because the edges of the hub are beveled the hub will camber, however it will also jack the right side of your laptop up a little bit. Again, I am NOT going to destroy my laptop by having my USB-C ports bearing weight and stress. Plus it blocks the 3.5mm audio port on the right side.I purchased this on sale for $4.99 but I am not going to return it because the very low cost. The three plastic black modular attachments are still reasonably good. They are between 0.5 and 1mm too short no matter which way you flip them on either side, but that level of tolerance is perfectly acceptable to me and will not harm my laptop. They work well being plugged directly into the laptop without the hub. I am mildly satisfied ONLY because of the price for the modular pieces. Otherwise, the hub is junk and will go to the garbage.

OK at first, USB-C ports are flaky
Update, Feb 2020-The individual input modules all still work well - this is a good thing because the main sidecar has been problematic in practice. Sometimes ports don't work. The USB-C connectors used on this device tend to not hold very securely, leading to poor or intermittent connections. USB-C charge cables don't stay in the PD charge port rendering the whole point of the sidecar and pass-through port pretty useless. After using this for a year I'm not nearly as happy with the modular sidecar form factor as I was at first. The modular inputs are a good concept but in practice it's a lot more gadgets I have to wrangle.Fortunately I've not lost any of the modules, because plugging them into the computer is the most reliable way to use them.I'll be replacing this device with a dongle-type multiport adapter as soon as convenient.Original review follows.---This is probably the best combination of features I found in a travel hub for my 2018 macbook pro. Great fit and finish, connections are tight, and the modular design allows for attaching the minimum ports needed at any particular time. No drivers needed with macOS 10.14. Can either attach the main hub for USB 3.0, HDMI and thunderbolt/USB-C passthrough, or use the modular accessories individually to add card reader, ethernet, or a single USB-C. The modular design means that overall it's not quite as compact as an "all in one" device, but it means you don't have to burn power for devices you don't need either. The only negative (and it is very minor) is that the included travel pouch makes the whole package a lot larger than it needs to be. The included pouch does protect the device very well, but I ended up using a smaller pouch that I had from another device to keep the overall package small for travel.
