Great Compact Softbox for Tight Spaces, but Be Aware of Its Size!
I purchased the Aputure Light Dome Mini II for my studio, and overall, I’m really impressed with its build and functionality. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons:Pros:• Compact Design: At 21.6”, this Light Dome Mini II is perfect for small studio setups or when you’re working in confined spaces. It’s incredibly useful when I need softer light without a massive footprint.• Excellent Light Quality: The softbox provides a beautifully diffused light that enhances skin tones and reduces harsh shadows, which is crucial for video and portrait work.• Durable Build: The materials feel solid, and the silver and black finish gives it a professional look. It’s made with steel, so I feel confident in its durability over long-term use.• Compatible with Aputure Lights: If you’re using Aputure LED lights like the 120D II or 300X, it mounts easily, and the Bowens mount is a fantastic, versatile feature.• Easy to Set Up: It comes with a carrying case and takes only a few minutes to set up and tear down. Perfect for on-the-go shoots as well!Cons:• Size Limitations: While compactness can be a plus, you need to keep in mind that this is a mini light dome. Its smaller surface area doesn’t provide the same level of softness as larger domes (like the 34.8” version). If you’re working in bigger spaces or need a broader diffusion, you might find it limiting.• Price: At £129, it’s a bit on the expensive side considering its size. If you have the room and budget, you might want to invest in the larger 34.8” dome instead, which offers more versatility in bigger settings.• Not Ideal for Large Subjects: For lighting larger scenes or multiple subjects, this might not provide the expansive light you need.Overall, I’d highly recommend the Aputure Light Dome Mini II if you’re tight on space or want a more portable solution for soft lighting. However, if you need something more versatile for larger setups, consider the bigger Light Dome options.

Perfect!
Just had this delivered and set it up in less than 60 seconds. It’s that easy!Build quality is great, feels robust yet lightweight. Comes with a gel holder and diffusers which again are great quality.Previous to this I had purchased and returned two other options.Option 1: The cheaper Neewer hexagon soft box. Great price but you’ll sacrifice on build quality. Works the same as this Aperture light dome mini II but the parts are made of cheap plastic. As a I had to replace first and then the replacement. So have up on that manufacturer.Option 2: Aperture light dome SE. Bigger option than the mini but set up is a lot longer as you have to fit the material each time. This resulted in the seam coming apart so sent back after initial set up.This light dome mini II is perfect!Would like to get a bigger version.

Great quality and easy to work with
Superb lightdome. The light from this is very diffuse and soft which is great for interviews and film making. I also like that they give a center insert and two weights of front cloth to adjust the softness and strength of light that comes out. Easy to setup and take down which is amazing for single shooters like me!

Really compact and quick
Because it comes with a lot of accessories, like the grid, the gel holders or the bag, the dome is a true pleasure to use. It diffuse my 120D, or 300D, very nicely. Quality of the diffuser is really good, doesn't seems to give any tint to the light. The dome itself is super quick to deploy and collapse.

Quick and easy
If You're after a small, strong soft box that feels and looks professional, then look no further. This is a great addition to my collection!

Internal diffuser is rubbish
I own the light dome II, and THAT is excellent. This mini version is however, rubbish. The assembly is the same and very efficient, but the internal diffuser is solid material. This means with it in place, you have a significant dead spot in the light. Without it, you have a significant bright spot.It seems so obvious, I can’t believe it was manufactured this way.

THE BEST PURCHASE FOR MAKING VIDEO LOOK BETTER
My favorite thing about this is the fact that it folds up so easily making transportation a breeze! It creates such a soft light and I'm so happy I went for this over the mini version. It is very expensive BUT totally worth being able to pack away so easily. Thanks Aputure.

Very, very easy to use
Excellent build quality, lightweight and packages small into a good quality bag for transporting / storage. Its a big improvement over MK1 as it now locks the support rods by only pushing a button and installs in seconds compared to the previous version which took a few minutes. The included honeycomb grid is a bonus as it is often an extra purchase from competitors This is a high quality & professional product and is well suited to a domestic environment or small to medium size studio
