Don't replace your compressor, fix the actual problem instead.
I bought this about a year ago and installed it at the same time on my 2012 A3 TDI. Install was easy enough, take the under tray off, take off the connector and a circlip, then pop it out of the compressor, install was the reverse and took maybe an hour total because the system still had a vacuum and I didn't vent it so the factory valve sucked itself in place. Otherwise it probably would have taken under 45 minutes including putting the car on jack stands. After that and a recharge, the AC has never worked so well. Now it can actually cool the interior on a really hot day. One year later and it still works great. Wish I knew about replacing this part sooner so I could have spent the previous 3 years with mediocre AC instead with AC that works!Just note that the easiest way to see if this part has failed is to check your pressures. If the low side seems high and the high side seems low, it is most likely this part in the case of VWs. The compressor actually failing isn't that common, but replacing the compressor because of this part is. Save over $200 in parts and get this instead!

Great Fix for a Common VW AC Problem – Totally Worth It
Great Fix for a Common VW AC Problem – Totally Worth ItThis product is amazing—an awesome fix for a really cheap price. I bought a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with a non-working AC system. After watching a few YouTube videos, I found that this part was commonly recommended as the issue. Just make sure to verify compatibility, since there are a few different compressor types. Luckily, this one matched mine. The replacement process took me about 2 hours , though mine was really stuck in place so it took a bit longer. Once installed, I recharged the system—and just like that, I had freezing cold AC again for around $100 and a couple hours of work.I’d say the job requires medium to high technical knowledge, and you’ll definitely need some tools and manifold gauges. But if you’re comfortable wrenching and want to save a ton of money, this is 100% worth it. Great value for fixing a super common (and annoying) VW issue.

Cheap DYI fix just take your time!!!!
If your VW compressor clutch is spinning and your AC isn't cooling like it should... This is your fix (provided your pressure switch and evaporator coil is good. It is bear to get out once you get the snap ring off. I used two screw drivers to carefully use leverage to simultaneously pry behind the plug connector and compressor with one, and the plastic groove and the compressor on the other...gently until it released the vacuum pressure from the recovery process. Hope this helps and that your hands are small enough to fit between the electric fan and compressor while moving hoses out your way.....

Fixed A/C
A/C is working great after installing. Would recommend trying this to fix your VW A/C before buying a new compressor.

Make sure you compare to the original
Ac much better then the stock solenoid. Make sure you double check its the same one. I made the mistake of waiting to long to do the job before pulling the original out. Couldn't return the wrong one so I had to buy another.
