The real deal.
Very nice scope in looks and function. Don't let some the negative reviews sway you. For this price you get a lot of goodies. In my humble opinion if you don't know how to operate a scope and mount it properly your going to have issues to start with. First its a LARGE scope I have it on a QD rings ( pepr ) atop my AR-15 and its almost as long as my barrel with the 5 inch shade attached. Optics are clear and bright if you know how to adjust the parallax and eyebell . The eye relief is crucial 3 to 3.5 inches. I recommend that you get with someone who has experience ( Gunsmith ) to help you if its your first time ever mounting a large scope. 20 bucks can save you a lot of time and frustration. Had my uncle to drive down our alley down the next alley and down the alley after that and I could still see his license plate about 7 to 800 yards! Wonderful product. Highly recommend.

The Good, Bad and Ugly Solutions
I purchased the BARSKA 10-40 X 50 for use on a Mosin Nagant build. The 7.62 X 54R round has sizeable recoil and I was concerned about this scope standing up to the sustained recoil of the rifle. I mounted the scope and scope mounts on a Rock Solid Rail and went to the range with two hundred rounds of 182 grain Prvi Partizan Match Rounds. The scope was not zeroing after ten rounds so I taped the Up and Down zeroing knobs with a small plastic screw driver handle after making each adjustment and brought the rounds into the center of the bull in another six rounds. I fired another 20 rounds and went on to another rifle that I am also working up. Everything seem to be OK until my next range session when after 12 rounds the I was all over the target. I checked everything to see if anything was loose and gave up because I couldn't tell. I went home took the scope off and examined the scope and the mounts and reassembled it and went back. I got it sighted in in ten rounds to a 1 inch group. I had some medium Loctite with me this time and took the scope ring screws out one at a time and used the Loctite. Should have thought about it the first time. The screws tightness just didn't hold up to the recoil. After about six hundred rounds, I have not had any additional problems. I am shooting two hundred meters using some 174 grain BTHP Sierra bullets that I reload for the Mosin and holdin one and a half inch groups. I have re-sighted the scope for 150 grain Prvi Partisan rounds and 148 grain Wolf and some 203 grain Wolf rounds. I always lightly tap the knob setting after each adjustment and then tighten the locking ring.In case anyone is interested, the outside diameter of the 50mm optic measured 57.93mm.The scope has performed very well. The problems were a learning curve for me and applying past experience with other scopes. I didn't mention setting the focus but if you follow the instructions and get it set on a clear view and just leave it alone you'll be fine. The Lens Shade works well with this scope. I shoot in a lot of different sun conditions and this was important when I made the purchase. Saves having to buy one and it is an excellent fit. The lens caps are not the best. The problem that I have with them is this kind of popping noise they make. In the dark and out in the field, the sound carries a long way. I recommend a good set of Butler covers. It is a worthwhile twenty bucks or so. I have owned a lot of scopes over fifty years and I have some good ones that cost four times this one. The optical quality on some of them are better. Some of them have failed me. I have been shooting this one for a year now and I am pleased with it.The recoil of the Mosin has certainly put it to the test. It took the recoil of the 203 grain 7.62 X54R rounds better that my shoulder. I have recommended this scope to two of my shooting buddies and after being at the range with me, they have ordered one for themselves. They ordered the Butler lens caps at the same time. My other reason for ordering this was knowing that if it didn't work that I could return it. I am not hesitant to return something that doesn't work. Poor quality is poor quality regardless of the price. I give this four stars but only because of the Lens Caps.FYI! I bought a Gen II BARSKA 10-40 X 50 SWAT and have it mounted on a AR15 build with a 22 inch HBAR barrel and I zeroed it in 5 rounds. Scope in a better quality than Gen I. The Gen II was bought for a different use than the Gen I and the built in lens shade is exactly the fit wanted for the AR. The Lens Covers on the Gen II are worse than the ones on the Gen I. Because the front of the built in lens shade is angled, I haven't found a solution.

Awesome optic!
Amazing optic for the price! Very clear! Can read a dead end sign at 1 mile exactly! Will buy another one for my next rifle build!

These scopes are beyond JUNK they would be a rip off at even 30.00
Update 12/20/15I must have gotten one good one out of 5 yes you read that right 1 out of 5. The first one I got for the contest gun was great, now we ordered 4 more for other contests and give a ways. It's sad, EVERYONE having the same issue (except for the first one) all have decent glass for the money it's great glass..the issue with the other 4 scopes (one from Amazon , 3 from a sponsor optics retailer) the adjustments, they have ONLY 45moa elevation and windage (the first had A LOT MORE) then within a few rounds down range the adjustments are ALL OVER the place like REALLY REALLY BAD, windage tracks in a arc across the whole adjustment range that turrets turn 4 whole turns past when the adjustments actually stop moving on elevation and windage it will move ten whole turns but only move 47 to 51 moa (that's between all 4 scopes) at what should be 7.5moa per full turn you get 6ish whole turns from the bottom of adjustment then the next 4ish turns don't move anything.. the adjustments aren't even close, on turn 1 off the bottom of adjustment range will move very close to 7.5moa then the next turn will move between 3 and 4moa then the next full turn will move it to 22.5moa likes it should be then turn 4 will move roughtly 2 to 3moa then the next full turn will catch up to where it should be.. the adjustments are so bad that shooting past 400 yards using elevation adjustment to dial in bullet drop is pointless it is in fact impossible because the adjustments move so poorly that you won't even be able to get close. And then the windage ( centering the turrets meaning the turrets move ten full turns so maxing out then centering at 5 down on elevation and windage) moves either way in a arc going from about 6moa up down to level then back up to 6moa of elevation included in the wimdage adjustment.. these are simply not worth 30 dollars, yes the glass is good for the money BUT the adjustments are total trash.. now if you get a good one like the first one I got then you will be shocked at how good they are for the money BUT right now that's a 20% chance of getting a good one and 80% chance you will get one that isn't even close to usable. Plain and simple AVOID THIS SCOPE OR YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND AMMO COST .. it's a shame how bad they are, I mean if the adjustments was even decent this scope would be a steal but with how bad they are even at 20 or 30 bucks you are getting ripped off.. IT REALLY IS THAT BAD.This is the scope we ended up with on the sub moa at 1k for less the 1k project/contest on YT give away rifle. We went through a total of 9 scopes (each scope we used a total of three replacements on to make sure it wasn't a one off problem before giving a poor review and removing it from the contest list), starting with the junk CVlife 6-24X50 front parallax and side parallax versions (the side parallax version is a much nicer scope just lacks in total elevation moa range for what we needed but other then that it is a decent scope with decently clear glass, but the adjustments aren't even close to being consistent and the mildots are not true at any magnification so it's just a poorly made rectical) then to the tasco world class 6-24 mildot just couldn't handle the recoil (read my review) of the sub 11 pound .300rum shooting very close to a absolute max charge with Molly coated 210 VLD's for sub 35 ftlbs of recoil guns it would make a awesome choice as it's under 60 bucks... Then we went through a good bit more scopes and none being capable of giving what we needed, we thought it would be the optics that made the project a failure.. a friend of mine has a Barska 10-40x on a .17hmr that he showed me and asked me after I looked through it what I thought it costs... I guessed in the 300ish range and he said 75 bucks... I was shocked (i shoot for/sponsored by Night Force, DPMS, Lazzeroni, Barnes and a few others. I make my living shooting looooong range and have for 15 years now so I know and only use high end optics) so I called Barska and asked if they would supply one of their scopes for the contest as a 1 time advertising deal if the scope was good the said no and wanted to have an ad in at least 3 videos if they gave me a scope.. I laughed... So I hopped online and bought one from a sponsor Optics planet for a few bucks but with no need to run an ad.. so here's the scope review, glass awesome at all mags (exit pupil is small at max mag and will strain your eyes but that's to be expected with budget high power optics) at 20x and below it's Leupold VX2 or slightly better clarity but no where near VX3 clarity but still well above its price point clear and crisp all the way to the edge, at max mag it does loss some crispness and image quality but still the best I've seen for a scope below 4 bills.. The eteched glass rectical is AWESOME for this price point and dead on true mils at the correct power another rarity for a scope of this price.. adjustments are dead on 1/8th moa with plenty of elevation for on to 1200ish with out a built in moa rail, we are using a 20 moa rail because we want to be able to reach out 1400 and we still have 10 moa left at 1400 yards with the .300rum shooting the Molly coated 210 vlds out a 26 inch tube. It has plenty of elevation and windage for extreme long range shooting on cals that are capabled of extreme L/R. We are capable of 8.5 to 9.5 inches 3 shot groups at 1k yards so the scope and rifle did it's goal and only just breaking 1 moa at 1400, now this combo can NOT DO this with factory ammo... Not even close, it's doing it with very very dialed in hand loads that the rifle eats up.. this scope did put us over budget, if bought at Amazon's cost (I got it from a sponsor for hardly any cost but I'm counting the Amazon cost in the rifles price) the price this setup can be bought for is 1028.82 now but that's with the 80 dollar 20 moa rail and to shoot 1k yards this scope has enough elevation that the rail is not needed so it really is under 1k.. if you know how to dial in really good hand loads and properly break in the rifle and don't get one of the few "bad" rifles that slip by with this scope, a well built hand load and you know how to shoot long range you can do 1 moa capable rifle at 1k yards for 1k us dollars. Just to know this rifle is printing consistently .5 to .6 moa out to 600 yards opening up to .8 moa consistently out to 800 and staying sub 1 moa to 1200.. this scope is absolutely a bargain at its price, it's built like a Leupold and will hold up to heavy recoil for a long long time, it is a heavy scope but that's a good thing as it's built like a tank .. holding up to 57 ftlbs of recoil on the sub 11 pound non-muzzle braked rifle. You shoulder will not be happy at all but the scope handles it in spades. The parallax markings are pretty close to what the say also, again rare for a budget priced optic. I'm a huge fan of this scope and would say it will stand up to scopes 4x it's price and beat most of them in every facet except for max mag clarity and that's not saying its max mag clearness is bad it's just not as crisp as it is at 20x and less but will still beat ANY sub 400 dollar scope at max mag clarity and size of exit pupil, most budget high mag scoped have a exit pupil so small it will strain your eyes to the point of a head ache, this one is small but more then fair and if you are placing your head on the stock where it should be then it's not bad at all.. Will this scope compare to my cake and eat it to Night Force N series and bench rest scopes? Absolutely NOT... not even remotely close... But it shouldn't as it's 14 to 18x less money then they are. I'm sponsored by NF and they may not like me saying this but oh well, would I rather have one NF scope if I had ten rifles or ten of these and plenty left over for ammo... Sorry Night Force I would take the 10 scopes rifles... As would the CEO so don't rip up my contract lol... This scope preforms FAR beyond its price point.. BTW we are giving the contest gun away to a lucky sub on Dec 31st, along with 300 rounds of the hand loads and a data and reload chart for the gun, Night Force is generously giving the winner a option for any NF scope at 25% off street price coupon that's valid for 365 days from the drawing date... DPMS is giving a 15% off street price coupon to the winner as well good for any DPMS rifle. If you like L/R shooting and give a ways you need to Sub to me, lots of fun videos and lots of sponsor give a ways..Edit 12/2/15I'm still overly impressed by this scope, I'm absolutely shocked at the optical quality of the this scope at this price point it is mind numbingly good, one again this coming from a scope snob, that has shot world class optics for 22 years of my 33 years of life. After close to 1500 hot 190 and 210 .300rum loads the scope is rock solid.. there is no better for the coin scope I've ever seen it blows away scopes of its power level at 3x the cost.. they aren't even near the same level of all around build quality nor optic quality. After roughly 1500 rounds the tracking is still exact 1/8th moa, turrets are good feeling at its price point and have stayed feeling good and we are turning those turrets no stop when shooting between 800 and 1400 yards.. the only grip I have with this scope is no height hash marks so you have to remember how many turns you made, on a zero resettable scope this is absurd.. with it being 1/8th moa 2 whole turns is the same as one whole turn on a 1/4 moa scope so some times you are making LARGE elevation adjustments and you have to remember how many turns back to zero its silly that is the only knock I can give this scope as everything else performs well above it's price point by far. Scope is clear enough to see .30 cal hole out to about 800 or so that tells you the scope is crisp, I prefer to use it at 22x as you get a high quality image and it degrades ever so slightly at max. Parallax markings are very good and accurate that is a shocker in a budget scope.. still the thing that shocks me the most is after a lot of heavy recoiling rounds the tracking is still perfect, I haven't seen tracking on any sub 500 dollar scope (except for SWFA SS scopes) be so true through out it's whole range of movement. This thing is amazing for the cost.

Not good for the price range.
The field of view was more narrow than I expected and the eye relief was not amazing either. The glass is ok and the controls work fine. I have only done a preliminary sight in, so I can't speak to longevity or much else. For the money, you could get an Arken SH4, which is better in every way. The sunshade is a nice add on, the scope caps are flimsy, and the mount was nothing special. Overall I would not buy again, at this price point $200+. Seems like a $120-150 scope to me.

The only thing it needs is better lens caps
Very well made. Glass is crisp and clear. Adjustments on turrets was very accurate. The only thing it needs is better lens caps. Otherwise awesome scope.
