A nice improvement on a classic gimbal design.
In the past year, I’ve really tried to improve my skills as a still photographer with my DSLR. But I’m often reminded that big isn’t always better. In fact, sometimes the smallest of cameras can have the biggest impact. A couple years back, I invested in a GoPro Hero 5 and loved using it with its standard menagerie of accessories. I loved the quality of the video so much though, I decided to invest in a gimbal so that I could use it for more than just an on-body camera. I got the G5 series handheld gimbal from FeiyuTech and loved how versatile it was. Now, I’ve gotten my hands on the updated version of the gimbal — the G6.The two models of gimbal are virtually the same, but the G6 has some really nice upgraded features including increased tilting angle (320º) and a display screen on the handle. The G6 also supports a WiFi connection as well as Bluetooth for connectivity. The G6 comes with a semi-hard shell carrying case, mini tripod, and extension arm.Getting started with the G6 gimbal is pretty easy. You slide your GoPro into the camera support and balance it out before powering it on. Once you power it on the G6 should stabilize the camera so that you are ready to shoot. While you are using the gimbal to create a smooth video, you can use the joystick to move the gimbal into the position you are looking for. I did a variety of tests for movement. One of the first ones I did was just to walk through my house to see how the G6 handled basic walking movements. I was amazed to see how smooth and fluid the gimbal movements were. It just makes it feel like you are gliding from room to room as you are walking. There was no bumpy up and down movements or bobbing present while I walked. In addition to that, I actually shot some footage while driving. The footage came out brilliant and smooth. The G6 is a very well-made piece of camera equipment. It is built to withstand standard action camera-style photography and is even splash proof. I can vouch for that claim as when I shot the driving footage, the road was wet from some rain showers that took place that day. It is only supposed to be ‘splash’ proof though and not completely waterproof. So, if you are on a beach and some surf splashed on you, the gimbal should remain operational. But, don’t expect that you can go swimming with the gimbal because it will not work afterward. If you are looking for a gimbal for your action camera, I can recommend this model as it is easy to set up and use.

Update 12/11/2018:Having owned the product for a couple months now and becoming familiar with the product, I've dropped my rating. Below are my issues.Issue #1: When I go to update the firmware on the gimbal from the phone, it shows that 2 of firmware applications on the gimbal are up to date and the "keyboard" application needs to be updated. When applying the update, it gets to 1.9% complete and fails. The app on the phone tells me to reboot the gimbal and do it again - which I do. When I attempt to update again, it checks the version number on the gimbal and says it's the most current version. When I come back to do it a couple days later and check on it - it says it needs to be updated.Issue #2: The software for the Android (running on a Samsung Note8) for this gimbal is a a mess. It constantly drops connections to both the gimbal and the gopro hero 7. When using the onboard controls of the gimbal itself or on the phone to record, or take pictures, it fails half the time, and when it works, it will record for about 6 seconds and then stop recording. (I'm aware of the short capture mode on the gopro hero 7and that is not the problem.) When connecting - options to come in by wifi or by bluetooth are confusing at best. When you connect by wifi to the gimbal, it disables the gimbal from connecting to the gopro hero 7. When you detach, the gimbal refuses to connect to the gopro again. I just cannot believe how poorly written the phone app is. It's so in need of some professional refinement. There should not be 3 different firmware updates visible to the user. The firmware update process should manage all of that - aside form the update failure issues described above.Issue #3: Based the constantly dropped connections, the sketchy ability to connect to gopro hero 7 and manage it, I blame this device for messing up a $60 (128gb) memory chip. The chip was unreadable, inaccessible, to the point of not even being able to reformat it on a computer. It required sending it back in.Original Review:Connectivity optionsOver the years, I've come to loathe usb 2.0 simply because it just breaks all the time and is very likely to have connectivity problems down the road. Since my latest cell phone (Samsung Note 8) and my wife switched Galaxy 8 - we have had zero problems with chargers and reliability. I'm just amazed that a product released just a year ago would still be on usb 2.0.So far - other than this MAJOR issue (for me anyway) the gimbal seems ok...

Easy to use and handy gimbal stabilizer for action camera
This is a gimbal that works for sport cameras, including Sony RXO / GoPro Hero 6/Hero 5 with button support to start/stop recording/ change modes, and other sport cameras with similar dimension (including Yi, Yi 4k and other brands). The companion app is optional and only needed if user wants to fine tune settings (such as tilting, rolling speed) or if the user wants to connect the gimbal to Sony RXO / GoPro Hero 6/Hero 5 for hardware button support.Overall I like how well the gimbal is able to enhance stabilization when I'm using action camera to capture videos. It has no problem stabilize video when I was walking/moving around and even when I tried to run. There are several operating modes, including pan, tilt follow and there is manual control for roll on the back.

This Product Is Not Water Resistant!!!
I purchased this product for a vacation & it stopped working the first day which I was very upset about since I was left with nothing to use my GoPro Hero 6 with since this stopped working the first day. The product is suppose to be able to withstand splashes of water but not water proof so you can’t swim with it & with little splash of water it stopped working. I am very upset I wasn’t able to get lot of footages during our vacation the way I had planned especially when i spent over a $1,000 between this product & GoPro Hero 6 for our vacation!!!!!
