China. The manufacturer has admitted this on a few occasions. Though most vitamins, medicines, and supplements come from china. The only difference is that supplements (unlike the vitamins/medicines) are completely unregulated and untested for purity by the FDA. Kind of a crab shoot for purity at most supplement suppliers, though this did seem to give the desired effect. Good luck.

Carnitine, or L-carnitine, is technically speaking, not an amino acid. It is actually a dipeptide made from the essential amino acids lysine and methionine. It is therefore often classed as a conditionally essential amino acid. Manufacturer doesn't specify -- though both descriptions are, at times, used interchangeably (i.e., acetyl-L-carnitine vs. acetyl-L-carnitine HCl), the idea of creating a hydrochloride is to allow dissolution in water. Since this particular product "dissolves completely in liquid with minimal agitation" (see November 24, 2013 review), the distinction isn't as critical. What is important to how this supplement performs, as you've probably come to find, is the addition of its acetyl group (and not necessarily whether or not it is in the hydrochloric salt form).
