Q: Is the na-rc8 low noise adapter that comes with this fan compatible with other noctua fans?

Although they can be connected, they have different resistance values for deceleration. The higher the value, the greater the deceleration. The following is a list of the resistance values. NA-RC6 81.4Ω NA-RC7 50Ω NA-RC8 150Ω NA-RC9 100Ω NA-RC10 51Ω NA-RC11 98Ω NA-RC12 147.5Ω

Q: Can I use a 12 volt external transformer? It will be mounted in a sound enclosure and I may not have a fan header available.

If the voltages match, it might work, but if there are no fan headers, you would have to modify the connectors yourself. Also, if it does not support PWM control, you will not have flexible fan control, so don't forget that.

Q: can this be connected to standard home 120 outlet? what would i need?: USB converter, what else?

This fan is not designed for 120v outlets. Look at the photos for the product and you can see the included 20cm and 30cm cables. This is a high quality fan but would be extremely dangerous if it was converted to a higher voltage.
