Doesn't restore metal to black
It is a polish but it won't cover up areas where there is bare rusty metal or exposed silvery metal with a black colour. Instead I have had to treat my fire hood with specially designed heat proof paint and, once dry, I will finish with this polish which is easy to apply - just don't use too much!

Hotspot Stove & Grate Polish ...
The Hotspot Stove and Grate Polish really improved the look and finish of our Gas Fire, and also the (decorative only) Bread Oven. Very pleased. I pushed my luck and also used it, (after removing 30+ years of varnish / scratches), on the Hearth Tiles. Came up a treat. Will be ordering another tube soon as a 'back-up' for future use. Great product !

Does what it says in the Tube !
A bit messy to use with a comforting vintage smell that takes you back to a bygone age but dies the job very well - used on an old cast iron clothes flat iron which will be used as a doorstop

Review for Stove & Grate Polish
Really happy with this product. I was originally looking for stove paint, but as most comes in a spray can, and my stove has a back boiler which is plumbed in, I wasn't happy to use a black spray paint in my living room. All the tinned paints I looked at routinely had "peeled off" or "turned white" reviews so I decided to go along the polish route instead. This polish was used on a multi fuel stove (wood & smokeless) that was already fitted when I moved in to my current home. The stove hadn't been looked after by the previous tenant and had loads of missing paint, and some surface rust. I chose this polish as it said it could cover rust. This polish went on really well, and even with the bad condition of my stove, covers really well. All missing paint, and surface rust was covered with very little on the cloth. I think my stove will probably need a few coats to bring it back to what it should be, but this isn't a fault of the polish, just that it the stove was in such a bad state.See images for a before, during and after. After first application with a cloth, I buffed the stove as per instructions, and the stove looked very respectable. First fire and there was no smell at all.A few months on after many daily fires (both wood and smokeless fuel):1. Doesn't smell2. Hasn't peeled or flaked3. Hasn't turned white4. Still looks blackMore than happy to continue using this product, and will probably replenish the stove surface at the end of every season of stove use.Recommended product and will purchase again in future.

Fantastic for blacking up the downpipes of my bike.
I bought this on the recommendation of my brother, who's spent about 35 years riding and working on bikes. I use it on the downpipes of my bike and the difference between the before and after is fantastic. It protects the pipes from rust and makes the bike look really good. It's worth the effort.Just in case anyone hasn't heard of this, here's how it's done:- clean the rust off the pipes- rub the polish in with a soft cloth or a small, soft toothbrush so it gets into all the pits/scratches etc.- leave overnight- run the engine for about 10 mins to heat the pipes/polish up. There WILL be smoke - lots of it and it stinks and this is normal! Your bike isn't going to set itself on fire - no matter how hot you think your bike is ;)- if this is the first time you've done it, you'll probably want to put another layer on but you don't need to leave it overnight this time- give it a minute to cool down and then polish the downpipes with a cloth. You'll notice they start to look a bit sleeker- run the engine to heat the pipes up again. Sorry, no smoke this time, or very little. You'll have to find some other way to annoy the neighbours :)- let it cool down again- you can either leave the pipes like this or give them another rub over with a cloth to get that extra sleek look- do this every week along with all the other routine stuff to keep the pipes protected and looking coolIt doesn't take up too much polish and one tube should last you the summer once you've done the first polish. You can also use it on the nuts and bolts in that area.Just a couple of things to think of - be careful not to get it on your brake discs and if you burn your fingers it's your fault not mine and you'll be more careful next time :D
