Andrew Lang's Fairy - Ideal bedtime reading to young children by parents & grndparents
Andrew Lang did the world a favor when he collected these stories in the late 19th Cent. He achieved a task that would be almost impossible today. They come from all parts of the world and variety of different cultures. It puts many old favorites like Jack and the Bean Stalk, Puss and Boots, Red Riding Hood in context with many other less well known but equally worthwhile stories. My only criticism is that many of the pictures from the original editions have been omitted. However .this compendium gives an inexpensive chance to enjoy a collection of 12 of his books. Should make an excellent Christmas present to a young family.

It's okay
The book is what it claims to be. The wondeful fantasy stories are all there, in the thinest paper I have ever seen. The bookcover, however, is much to thin and fragile for so any pages and it gest damaged almost immediately. The small print makes it a little tyring. But, I say again, The stories are ALL there!

Oh for an index
This is a fantastic collection of stories from all over the world, its only failing - no index. With well over 300 stories finding the tale you want is a nightmare. As this is such an extensive resource I would have expected an index for each of the titles within each of the fairy book and in the back an index which included themes, characters, places, names, locations of origin etc.Otherwise an excellent purchase.

Disappointing compendium of the coloured Fairy Books
As a fan of the different coloured Fairy Books, I thought I'd buy this for my daughter. We were both disappointed for several reasons. This book is unweildy, like a volume of the Yellow Pages, and not at all conducive to reading in bed. It is also, like the phonebook, very floppy. (I don't know if this is on account of the type of paper used or not, but the cover has considerably less rigidity than an average paperback.)Then, there's the typesetting. After reading a few pages, I have to wonder if this book is not the product of somebody scanning in copies of the original books into MS Word or some such, and just printing it out in two columns per page, cramming as much as possible into the smallest paper area. It has that look, you see. The print is small, the stories run right into one another with barely a break, and there are no concessions to aesthetic layout of the pages at all. In some intangible way, these factors mean that more effort is required to read. And finally... No illustrations whatsoever! Admittedly, these are a luxury item nowadays, and I would never dream of finding wonderful full colour plates as in times gone by, but not even so much as an outline drawing before each story? Come on! This should be a children's book!So if you're truly desperate to read one or more of the stories, this does just fit the bill, but for a decent reading experience I'd keep looking for another edition, such as the separately published coloured Fairy Books by Andrew Lang.

Get them free on Kindle instead
The format is really unconducive to reading with the stories crammed up, and as a previous review mentions this volume is like a yellow pages in weight and feel. All the Andrew Lang books are available for free on Kindle, which I think would be a much better way to have them all in one place than this unwieldy volume
