I bought this pen because my 14 year old, wheelchair-bound son started using a right-handed version in school and found that he preferred this pen to typing on a computer--the first time in 5 years that he has said so.I bought the left-handed version because my son is right handed and I am, well, left handed. I write quite a bit as I am a student studying for my PhD. I have been getting hand cramps when using the inexpensive, straight, skinny pens that come 12 or 15 to a pack. I needed something that would not hurt my hands when used for extended writing sessions.I find that if I hold the pen with my fingertips in the appropriate indentations my hand stays more relaxed than with the skinny pens. I am sure this is the way I was taught to hold a pencil and pen way back when I was in elementary school (the early '60s) but my grip has changed over the years. After a couple of sessions with this pen the grip felt natural and my hand felt relaxed while writing. I think the balance of the pen contributes to this relaxation, too. The pen feels like it is weighted towards the writing end.I took off one star because the actual ink cartridges do not always produce a consistent flow of ink. Sometimes I get a lighter line, almost as if the ball in the "ball point" gets stuck or hung up. I can still read the writing, mind you, but this occasional blip is annoying when writing in the margins of books or when making notes on post-its to insert into books. Maybe it is the paper in the books and in the post-its that cause the blips. I don't know for sure.Anyway, using this pen has been a very positive experience, overall. I can write for longer periods of time without hand pain or discomfort. And, the other students in my program keep asking where I got such a neat pen.It doesn't hurt, and I get compliments on it. You can't beat that.
