A must if you adventure
My fiance and I like to explore but sometimes separate to look at different stuff these work great keeping us connected. They also are waterproof and float which my loving fiance had to check out the first time we went out as she dropped hers in a creek. Only issues is we had a charging issues but it seems to have resolved itself

Good little radio - I'm very happy with it.
I'm total newbie and did a lot of research before I decided to buy this radio and I'm overall I'm very happy with it.Since there are already more than enough reviews here on Amazon about this model, so I will focus on the issues that I found less discussed:- Microphone Volume:It is true, the microphone volume is not impressive. However I according to what I read this is often the case with other waterproof radios as well. So it seems to be somewhat of a necessary evil for the water proofing function. Interestingly just like I read in someone's review, it was as if the microphone got better after opening the external microphone port and letting the pressure to equalize. MOST IMPORTANTLY you MUST talk CLOSELY and DIRECTLY into the speaker/microphone, meaning your nose should almost touch the mode button. If you are trying to talk like on a celphone, then the radio won't pick up your voice well and the others won't hear you loudly.- Range:If you research this subject you will find that most of the experts will agree: the manufacturers claim of 35 miles range is likely (if at all) only going to happen under ideal conditions from mountain top to mountain top. As for RANGE IN SUBURBAN CITY TESTING we got close to 1 MILE on the stronger (2 Watt) GMRS Channels (Channel 15-22) and about 1/3 MILE on the weaker (0.5 Watt) FRS Channels (Channel 8-14). It needs to be mentioned that it IS VERY important what channel you are using not only because of the differences in range, but also because currently the FCC actually requires you to get have a license for using the GMRS Channels. Having said that, while one GMRS license will cover you and your entire family, there is no license requirement for using the FRS Channels. You will find this information printed in the users manual of this radio as well (on page 21 under General Specifications and Licensing).-Compatibility:From what I read so far, FRS and GMRS Channel Frequencies are standard, which means you can talk to any other FRS/GMRS radio as long identical numerical channels are selected.- GMRS Repeater Capability:Those who are interested in using this feature will already know, this radio is not repeater capable. From what I read, as far as hand helds go, currently only a few Motorola phones and a phone from Olympia are repeater capable.

Great for the price
Very surprising distance and vocal clarity. Great for on-the-water communication over two miles

Not waterproof
I bought these to use while camping/hiking/going to the lake. I bought them specifically for their “waterproof capabilities” but they failed on the first use. I took them out on a floaty. I tried to test them out and dropped it in the water, it floated as it said and it worked fine. So I though, hey these things really work. After that, I kept it up on floaty with me until I had to use it again. Then about 15 minutes later i picked it up and I couldn’t even see the display because the screen had fogged up. And had little drops of water inside as you can see in the pics. On top of that, whenever I would hear my friends voice come in through the speaker, it was muffled and distorted. When I finally got back to my campsite and unscrewed the overly difficult battery cap...endless drops of water poured out (as you can see in the pictures). You can even see the little puddle underneath it.I’m glad Amazon refunded me but I’m annoyed that I had to waste my time and find out that these things DO NOT WORK as advertised. Now I’m back in the market for some ACTUAL waterproof walkies.

Refurbished, not new. Cheap, flimsy belt clip.
I see no mention that these are refurbished radios, but that is very clearly what I received. There was no retail packaging. These arrived with a little bubble wrap bag around each radio, the charger, and a paper that identifies the buttons and display indicators and tells how to turn the radio on and change the channel - all in the shipping Brown cardboard box. There were no instructions for how to use any of the other features. One of the displays had a protective sticker showing all the indicators. The other radio display didn't have this sticker. Minus one star for not disclosing that these are not new radios. The belt clip is very thin, cheap plastic. I've no doubt it will break easily when subjected to even light force. I would not trust it to retain the radio during even mild adventure activity such as a hike. Unfortunately there's no way to attach a lanyard to the radio body to make sure you don't lose it when the clip inevitably breaks. Minus another star for the cheap belt clip. The microphone is in the center of the radio. Be sure you speak into it instead of the top or bottom of the radio.

Range and clarity are good
Clearly you have too be in optimal conditions to reach the range listed on the box, but I’m am well satisfied with the range that I get. Sound and clarity are great … no static

Long Range/Clear communications/great battery
People complained about battery life, but I only lost 1 of 4 bars after 12 hours of use! Used on cruise ship and on shore for port days. Amazing range, battery life, features, and repeat is an amazing feature. The roger feature is also very cool, setup takes a little but recommend setting up the privacy channel. Or you can hear everyone on the channel, privacy only limits your ability to receive. Also use the lock function or it’s easy to bump channel/volume buttons on your belt or in your wife’s purse.
