Used this on an old painted jewelry box, just dipped the swab in vinegar and wiped the surface, and bam, color change in seconds! Super easy and way more accurate than water-based kits. Just be careful with delicate stuff since vinegar can be harsh. Like that it comes with 30 swabs for retries.

I bought these to test for lead in our new house. The house was built 1900s, so lead exterior paint was likely used in the past and may be in the soil. I took soil samples and used these swabs to check for lead. Very easy to use, and showed no lead for peace if mind. An improvement may be to include a swatch with a small amount of lead to do a control positive test to confirm effectiveness of the swabs. I'll likely do a control test and update with results.

These didn’t work for me. When I dipped the swab in vinegar, it briefly turned a pale, splotchy yellow, but that color faded back to white before the 30-second test period was over. I tried 3 swabs on 3 different surfaces, but none turned any color except white.

i’m giving 4 stars because no where online does this state that it’s a toxic or dangerous product, but when you get the product it says to not touch with bare skin or to even breathe the product. so please be careful while using and wear gloves and dispose of properly away from children and pets! it did help me identify some lead on a vintage bed frame!

My toddler has under methylation and detoxification is one of the biggest health problem. Since her body is accumulating heavy metals and toxins and not detoxifying, we are doing our best to keep our home toxin and heavy metals free. But that’s so hard, pretty much everything has some kind of toxic metals, plastics, chemicals etc.My daughter’s heavy metals test results are very concerning and she’s getting treatment for heavy metals toxicity. Ever since we found out about her health problems we are extremely cautious what we’re using and checking heavy metals like Arsenic water test, waters tests, Lead swab tests. Those tests give me pieces of mind.This holiday season she got many toys as a gifts and her brother and sister got many toys as well. I like to check each and every toys for lead and found out this one.It’s super easy to use and seems very accurate. Many piece for the price. I was shocked almost half of the toys she and her brother received had lead, especially some were smaller toys that she and her baby brother able to put in her mouth.I threw all of them in the trash. I will recommend lead tests for every person who has health related issues.

I read that you are not supposed to use dishes that were made before 1978 because they could contain lead paint. My fine china dishes that I use for holidays were made in the mid 1960s. I was very worried that possibly they had lead in the painted flowers on the china and after using these swabs it is now confirmed. I am heartbroken to realize that I have been feeding my kids off of dishes that had lead paint every holiday since they were born. At least I know now and I will start replacing my set, I'm glad products like this exist otherwise I would have never known.

Super simple to use and works like a charm. Comfort in knowing what has or doesn't have lead paint. Great value for the money and if you are worrying about lead in dishware, etc., this is highly recommended.

UPDATE to review below: The seller promptly contacted me and offered a full refund which I appreciated. They indicated I should order again which I assume the item initially purchased may have been defective. I changed the star rating from 1 to 3 stars since the seller is very concerned with customer satisfaction. Would be worth trying their product again.Would not trust the results. Several of the swabs did not turn yellow when placed in the vinegar prior to rubbing on a test article. Possibly no reagent in the cotton swab (?). Tested several old dishware and none of the tests were positive for lead even though the manufacture recommends not to use due to lead. Only positive test was after rubbing the surface of a solid lead weight which did not immediately turn pink to red. Would definitely not trust the accuracy and/or the quality of having the reagent on the swabs.
