Q: Does this device need to be calibrated？

I would say no, the decible meter was precalibrated before I receive it. Luckily it still works well after one year.

Q: Does this unit come with the Calibration Certificate?

No, this decibel meter does not come with a calibration certificate. You will need to purchase an acoustic calibrator separately and calibrate it yourself.

Q: what does it mean how does it work.. does it have actual alarm that? "with Backlight Alarm" term what is it????

Hello thanks for asking. Yes, our sound level meter has back-light alarm function. "Back-light alarm" means when measured noise exceeds the value you set, the backlight will flashing. Say you set 66dB as the threshold, when the sound exceeds 66dB, then the backlit will flashing. By the way, you can also disable the auto shutdown function, then sound meter can continuously reading sound until you turn it off by manual. Hope this information can help you.

Q: I'm trying to count car door slams and honks from an impossible neighbor. will this device count short bursts like slams?

Yes, it will detect short bursts of sound. But it's memory is limited to only the last event and it does not "count" events. You could photograph its "frozen display.
