The media could not be loaded. This is a great kettle that holds a lot of water and looks good. It is durable and the black is nice to avoid stains from cooking grease. It hums instead of whistling when boiling. The pouring spout has a flap on it which can be a little problematic if you pour fast. Overall, amazing kettle!

I purchased it because it was very reasonably priced and Sur La Table is a quality brand. I like the way it looks, and I wanted a whistling kettle. Now for the CONS: The vents are around the lid, so there is no way of holding it without first protecting your wrist from the steam escaping the vents. I have scalded my wrist any times because I don’t wrap a dish towel around the handle sufficiently.It doesn’t whistle, it hums softly. More often than not, it doesn’t even hum. I have boiled water dry in the kettle while working in the kitchen.This was a very disappointing purchase.

Purchased for the matte finish. It isnt as easy as you would think to find that.Arrived as expected and packaged well.Heats up in the expected amount of time, whistes nice and loud so it functions as described. Looks nice with the matte finish fixtures in the kitchen and appears to be well made, havent had it long enough to know for certain

The media could not be loaded. Edit: I received a replacement for my defective product in a matter of days. The new kettle worked as described with a pleasant “train whistle” harmonica sound. Adjusting my review to 5 stars as this kettle is much nicer than what we’ve had in the past.Original review of defective product: Ordered this kettle specifically for its whistle, so that I could be alerted when the water was boiling. First run it did not whistle, disassembled the lid, inspected the parts, nothing looked amiss. I checked online for instructions on how the parts should be assembled and confirmed it was put together correctly. If it were not for this defect I would give this kettle a much higher rating but because of it I may as well go back to using a pot to boil water. I will edit this review if the seller is able to remedy the issue.

Everything is great with the teapot except for three things. I find the handle gets incredibly hot to the point where I need to use a towel or something when pouring to protect from the heat and steam.The whistle is very strange and actually hard to hearAnd the shape and design is hard to get every last drop out of the kettle, leaving a little bit of water behind and worries me about corrosion long term. If it was recessed inside where the spout comes out it would be easier to get all the water out.Other than those three things, it gets the job done and is nice overall.

At first I thought it was too light, but I've come to realize that it's solidly built. This is an attractive, simple and straightforward teapot. It pours beautifully, the handle stays cool and the steam doesn't burn you. One of the reasons I got it, besides liking the look, is that it does not have a screaming, shrieking whistle which sets my whole nervous system on edge. This is more like the low whistle of a harmonica teapot, but with just one tone, that is soothing rather than shrill, and is loud enough, but not intrusively so. I'm very glad I got it!
