Running Ubuntu 22.04 for FPGA development
I benchmarked the performance of FPGA development tools for an AMD 9950X system against an Intel iCore9 13900K system. The relative performance was mixed. The tools tested were Xilinx Vivado, Altera Quartus Pro, Siemans Questa and a tool of my own, HDLmaker. Both systems were running Ubuntu 22.04. The Intel system was using the standard Ubuntu kernel, the AMD system was using the mainline Ubuntu kernel. The standard Ubuntu kernel lacks Ethernet drivers for the AMD board, the mainline kernel fully supports it.The Intel iCore9 13900K is faster for Vivado and Quartus Pro, The AMD 9950X is faster for Questa and HDLmaker.EnterpriseAMD Ryzen™ 9 9950X 16-Core, 32-Thread128G CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHzGIGABYTE X870 AORUS Elite WIFI7 AMD AM5 LGA 1718 MotherboardSAMSUNG 990 EVO Plus SSD 4TB, PCIe Gen 4x4 | Gen 5x2 M.2 2280Ubuntu 24.04Kernal 6.14.0-061400-genericYorktownIntel Core i9-13900K - Core i9 13th Gen Raptor Lake 24-Core128G CORSAIR Vengeance 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5600 (PC5 44800)GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS ELITE AX LGA 1700 Intel Z790 ATX Motherboard with DDR5Crucial P3 4TB PCIe 3.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSDUbuntu 22.04Kernal 6.8.0-52-genericVivado: 1Enterprise: synth_design: Time (s): cpu = 00:36:12 ; elapsed = 00:35:42 . Clean Aesthetic, Rock-Solid Performance
I’ve been building PCs for a while now, and the X870 AORUS Elite ICE has quickly become one of my favorite motherboards to work with. First off, this thing looks amazing—the white/silver finish paired perfectly with the theme of my build in the Lian Li 011 Dynamic. Fitment was no issue at all, and it complements the clean layout of the case beautifully.Performance-wise, it's been flawless. Running it with a Ryzen 9 9800X3D, 32GB of DDR5, and a 7900 XTX—no hiccups whatsoever. BIOS was easy to navigate (honestly one of the smoother UIs I’ve used), and everything posted right out of the box. PCIe 5.0 support is a nice future-proofing touch, and the VRMs stay cool even under load.Plenty of USB ports, smart fan headers, and the built-in Q-Flash Plus saved me some time during the setup. It also has just enough RGB to keep things interesting without going overboard, which is perfect for my build.Overall, if you’re aiming for a white-themed build or just want a reliable, feature-rich board that looks as good as it performs, this is a fantastic choice. Gigabyte nailed it with this one.

Everything Greats!
I recently built a new system using the GIGABYTE AORUS X870 ELITE ICE WIFI 7, and I’m thoroughly impressed. This board combines cutting-edge features with a sleek, icy-white aesthetic that really stands out in a build. Everything is working good so far.I switched from Intel to AMD for this build, so I wanted a motherboard that not only performs well but also looks great—especially for a full ATX case. After some research, I found this board, and it checked all the boxes.WiFi 7, PCIe 5.0, strong power delivery, and great connectivity make it a solid choice for gaming, productivity, and future upgrades. The BIOS is easy to use, and the overall setup was smooth. No issues so far, and I’m really happy with how clean and premium the board looks in my build.
