Believe The Hype
These are the real deal. Amazing sound clarity at this price point. Other cheaper headphones (and some expensive ones) tend to have too much of certain frequencies, especially bass. These have a pretty flat frequency response, allowing the user to dial in what he/she likes. The bass is not overwhelming, and quite subtle, but punchy and tight. The mids and highs seem perfect, not too harsh, not too dull, and not too bright. Besides the sound quality, these are built really well. I had a pair for months that were subjected to lots of abuse; getting caught in my car door a couple of times, being pulled, and even dropped in a puddle once. They survived without a hitch. Now here's the biggest problem with these: the cord. Although it is a nice fabric covered cord which is durable, it gets tangled into a horrible mess as if it has a mind of its own. It sometimes takes me a few minutes just to untangle it. The cord is also very noisy when it rubs against your clothes. If Monoprice really wanted to make the ultimate, cheap (in price only) audiophile headphones they need to change 3 things. First, the cord needs to be thicker (still fabric covered) and fairly tangle resistant. Second: they need to include better tips because the included ones are too thin and don't seal well in your ears (reducing bass). And third: they need to make the connector angled for better durability. Add a nice carrying pouch, and increase the price by 4 or 5 dollars, and they still have a winner. Buying these is a no-brainer. They really do sound as good as people online say.

impressive for the price
Costing under £5, I didn't really expect a great deal from these headphones. However I decided to get them as I needed a cheap secondary pair and most reviews were very complimentary. On first listen, it's quite clear that these are a budget option. The headphones lack the clarity of my primary pair (Phonak Audeo PFE 012 - £90 RRP), and on certain tracks, highs can sound harsh. However, I must say that they really do sound far more expensive than what I paid. The bass is strong but not so overpowering that it takes away from the other sounds. They sound good when listen to high tempo music like hip-hop and trap (though as mentioned previously, highs occasionally become a little harsh). I'd have been pleased with these if they had cost me £25. The fit of these may not be to everyone's taste (they really are huge and might be hard to fit in some peoples' ears), however it's hard not to recommend them at such a low price. I can't see there being a better pair of you're on a budget of £10 or less.Overall:Pros:- Solid bass response- Accurate, punchy sound - good for loud tracks (hip-hop etc)- Sound as good as various £15-30 headphones I have bought in the pastCons:- High end is harsh on certain tracks- Sound becomes a little muddled at high volume/with many layers of instruments- Become a little uncomfortable after a few hours' wear

Incredible sound for this value
I am an obsessive music listener, if I'm not talking to someone I'm listening to music on earphones. So naturally, I go through so many headphones and earphones in my life, some of which breaking all the time but a lot of them mostly disappointing me in audio quality. But I have to say, with these earphones... if you wear them correctly (as in over your ear), they're not only very comfortable and sturdy, but the sound quality is by far the best you'll get at this price range. By FAR. So much so I had to chime in and say, because getting it for this price is a brutal steal. They're great as gym headphones because as well as being cheap, the over ear wrap is strong and the fit is snug, so they have a hard time falling out. They can go loud and the sound quality is great, I don't really need to explain this part because this is really well documented on the internet. Read here: [...]I love that the wire is covered with this fabric mesh, the cable feels lighter and less prone to grip to things. My only complaint is that because of the weird shape of the earbuds, they often get caught on themselves and can be awkward to untangle fresh out of a pocket. But you soon forgive them once you pop them back in your ears and put some music on.

Decent earbuds, noisy, easily broken cord.
This is my third pair (two lost while travelling), and I've had it for maybe a bit more than a month. One of the earbuds cut out right below the earpiece a week ago. I took it apart, but it was unfixable. The design of these is such that, even when you wear them with the cord pointing forward/down (phones rotated about 90 degrees from how they are in the main picture, when in your ear), there is unnecessary stress on the cord at that point. Also, I think the combination of a rubber cord and cloth covering compounds any natural issues with the cord twisting, so it's always twisted a lot, which weakens the cord. The cloth covering is another thing. It's really nice as far as making the cord a little more solid and more easily untangled, but it is terrible to have on the split cord that goes from the middle up to the ears. When you move around, as other users have said (either on amazon.co.uk or amazon.com) it makes a terrific bassy noise in your ear. It also makes repairing the phones much harder. Those negatives aside, if the earbuds fit well in your ear (they're okay in my ear, but I've only got it in perfectly a couple times where I could hear a noticeable difference in bass and overall tone quality), it's got great sound. Others have done analysis of the sound, and it's some of the best you can get for anywhere in this price range. But, the earbuds are weird to fit in your ear, and don't fit perfectly often. Exchanging the tips for better ones supposedly helps with that a lot, but I haven't tried (and now they're broken anyway). I've rated my previous purchases 5 stars (should probably be 4.5, but I tend to use these while sitting, so the cloth-covered cord noise isn't a big deal), but this is a definite 3 because of how quickly they broke.

One of the best deals I've seen
Purchased based on the reviews I've seen. Initially I thought they lacked bass & the mids were kind of bright. As Monoprice advises, I gave them 24 hrs of pink noise. This smoothed things right out with the mids, brought the bass up. They're marketed as enhanced bass, which I don't agree with. It's more extended than enhanced. It goes to far lower frequencies than most earbud headphones I've heard. However, it does this keeping quite flat in sound, precisely what I was after. Build quality is adequate. They're not the super sleek style that some of the expensive ones are, but they do the job. Fit in ear is subjective to the owner, but they do fit me well once I changed the supplied silicon ear bits. They are also a bit looser, while still keeping the good audio response. Other earbuds I've owned have needed to be pressed right in to get full fidelity. Not these. I do like the cloth covered cord. Noise may be an issue, but the cable is still quite stiff from manufacturing. With time this will 'relax' and I'll see how it does then. Even if it never does though, I'm very happy with these for the cost. They sound far more costly than they are. Good show Monoprice!
