Microphones are not headsets! And your stash of old audio output cables are not going to work. It is important to use the included cables, Y connector, and the 4 pin to 3 pin adapter when connecting to a PC, digital recorder or camera audio input. The 3.5mm plugs from the mics are a 4 contact TRRS type. The signal from the mic is presented on the S (shield) pin, and ground is on R2 (the ring closest to the shield). R1 (ring closest to tip) and T (the tip) are not used.Inputs to consumer devices are often 3 pin TRS (Left channel on the tip, Right channel on the ring, and ground on the shield. When it comes to 4 pin TRRS inputs, well it depends. Apple devices seem to be T=Left, R1=Right, R2=Ground, S=Mic. Non-Apple seems to be T=Left, R1=Right, R2=Mic and S=Ground. Those of us familiar using the shield as ground for audio out, might think that Apple is nuts BUT the Apple input scheme is closer to the typical microphone/instrument configuration. This flip of the mic/ground connections might not matter, but if you find yourself troubleshooting the source of hum/noise etc. keep this in mind. What all of this means is that you need to keep your box of old audio cables tucked neatly away, far from these excellent mics, and use the cables provided. This includes third party TRRS to TRS conversion cables/plugs. They will not work!Lastly, my learning from making a lot of mistakes, revealed the obvious. These mics have one signal therefore are mono; both of them! The signals presented on the 3 pin TRS that you plug into your recorder are also mono. I am not sure if this results in a balanced input (read up on balanced / unbalanced inputs if you need a cure for insomnia), but if you are thinking you will get a left track from one mic and a right track from the other, sorry!I had a problem with my Tascam DR-05 (old version) with the cables, Y connectors, and TRRS/TRS provided with these mics. The DR-05 Left track was being recorded at a higher level than the Right. Maybe that had something to do with the phantom power from the DR-05 (which must be turned on). Selecting Mono or Stereo on the DR-05 didn't matter. So I contacted the manufacturer for support. Their support was excellent and prompt by the way. Within a few days, I received a new Y cable. Beats me what the difference is, but the replacement Y cable solved my problem. Now both the L and R tracks recorded on the DR-05 are the same level.Overall, I am thrilled with the mics and the support from the manufacturer. I hope my fumbling through all of this, and this rambling review might be helpful to some others.
