Will not play 4K movies, only HD Bluray.
Will not play 4K movies, only HD Bluray. And if you want to rip discs to add to your home media server then you will need to flash new firmware to allow this to work. I get annoyed drives like this get advertised as 4K when this is not possible to play 4K discs. I bought 3 different drives from different places before I could get one to read 4K discs, and this was the drive with new firmware from Makemkv!

Excellent so far
I was nervous spending over £130 on a brand I hadn't heard of, but its a solid build, connected straight to my Win10 PC without issue and works perfectly with UHDs.

Good product that does everything it says it will
I bought this after returning a different model that didn’t work correctly from another supplier. This one does everything it says it will. The seller sent some additional support information after the purchase to help with any issues. That said, so far there haven’t been any issues. The unit was completely plug and play with Windows 10 on a Dell XPS machine and was up and running within a minute of unpacking it.Cyberlink PowerDVD 18 Ultra plays everything I’ve thrown at it including 4K-UHD and 3D Blu-ray without any problems so far. To play Blu-Ray and 4K-UHD you will need purchase PowerDvd or an equivalent as this type of playback is not supported natively in Windows. The product listing does make this clear so no excuses for not knowing really. The DRM protocol for 4K-UHD playback places some tight restrictions on what hardware and s/w standards must be implemented before replay will be allowed. Cyberlink have a download (Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor) that will tell you if your PC is compatible with Blu-ray and/or UHD playback, so if you’re in doubt it’s a good place to start.Pros:• Reads/writes CD, DVD and Blu-ray disks.• 4K-UHD playback support (with the correct s/w and a suitable spec. PC)• USB 3 and USB C support.• Small form factor• Solid metal case• Useful carrying/storage case• Accurate helpful product listing• Helpful supportCons: (actually they’re comments rather than real drawbacks 😉)• Not silent – but not intrusive either• The black finish is nice but is a bit of a finger print magnetSummary:Well-made portable drive which enables you to read and record CD/DVD and Blu-ray disks as well as allowing you to watch 4K-UHD disks on a suitable PC. It works well through either the USB C or USB 3 interfaces and is small and neat enough to slip into the side pocket of a laptop sleeve if required.

I bought this after a LOT of research online, ...
I bought this after a LOT of research online, trawling through a lot of conflicting statements. I bought it as it was (at the time of purchase) one of only 3 drives that could play 4k discs that have the DRM on them.To summarise the research, to get 4k on a PC you need:A 4k screen that is compliant with the DRM.A later generation display port cable or HDMI leadA graphics card from a short list that can handle the DRMA processor from an even shorter list that can handle the DRMAn optical drive that can handle the DRM (at time of purchase there were three models which had to be imported from Japan or Germany). If ANY of these components is not up to scratch, you will not be able to play the discs you bought. Then you have to install software through the BIOS that will lock out part of your computer just for running the resource hungry DRM. At this point, I decided not to cripple my computer as a punishment for trying to watch films legally. My 4k films are now in storage awaiting another method to watch them. Ironically, for that you need a BDXL drive that is not compatible with the DRM to rip the discs, so I will invest when I have the money.I gave this 3 stars as it does do what it says, but leaves a wide gulf of information out that you will need to get it working properly. This is just my experience. I am not advocating anyone breaking the law to see the films they have purchased, but you may wish to look into it thoroughly to avoid buyer's remorse.

Could do with strengthening.
The design is like a notebook DVD drive. It's outer case is solid, but the drawer front is weakly sprung, so is fiddly to close, although it has a properly strong button. It doesn't open fully, just like many, so an awkward tilt is needed. It has a brushed metal top, but can be dusted off by hand. I'd recommend resting it on absorbent rubbery matting because this and other external DVD drives are noisy. It's very fast, and I burned 20 DVDs one after another without failure (cheap but good Verbatims).

Superb build quality in a really nice package.
Durable aluminium case does not flex when holding it whilst you close tray. The included storage case is excellent and I haven't seen one separately like it. The version I bought included both USB 3.0 and USB-C cables. It plays CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays with no problem at all, but you will need optional software for this - as a Mac user I found "Leawo Blu-ray Player" doesn't work at all, so I purchased "Macgo Blu-Ray Player Pro" but not from the App Store as it is far cheaper online. When it came to burning software I purchased "Roxio Toast 16 Titanium" again not from the App Store - I recommend shopping around for this to get the best price available. I also bought the 3 year warranty on Amazon.

Totally happy with the performance and appearance
Totally happy with the performance and appearance, though I have not yet used it a lot.It is still in the small vanguard of peripheral devices with USCB-C connection which makes it desirable to those who wish to combine playing DVD/BluRay with the latest laptops and tablets.I have withheld one star because i travel a lot and spend time in different regions and am looking for region-free playback.

Does not do what it says
It works with CD's and DVD's. BUT it does not work with 4K HD even though it has a sticker on the front saying 4K HD. Do not get this. The Verebatim drive (really a Pioneer drive) is a lot cheaper and works a lot better with 4K.Avoid this useless drive.
