it's all in the prep work! tiled shower floor...
i got this item because we have a grout and 1.5" x1.5" tile shower floor (shiny type of ceramic tiles). those rubber mats w/ suction cups never really stuck securely to the tile floor (maybe due to the placement of the tiles and grout) so it was very dangerous stepping in and out of the shower - plus, they are a pain to keep clean. so, i thoroughly cleaned the shower floor using muriatic acid (normally for swimming pools) and dried it as best as possible w/ a couple of dry towels. i cut long strips (like two 3' and two 4.5' strips), placed them so that the end pieces landed in the middle of a tiny tile to guarantee a good stick on the ends at least. the width of the tape is what made me nervous because it would land right where the edge of the tiny tiles curved down and the grout starts but after applying the tape, i pressed down the tape but paid more attention to the edges by pressing them w/ the waxy paper part of the sticky backing of the tread tape (the part you throw in the trash). in hind sight, i should have purchased that rubber roller that is recommended... but it all worked out great. it's been 2 months and all the tape is still down on the shower floor. no corners or edges are coming up, yet... looks good and is easy on the bare feet. my thinking is, if the edges start to come up, i can take an exacto knife and trim as needed. but so far so good. my dad uses this shower and he drags his foot due to a stroke so this tape works great for him.

Great product to keep our steep stairs safe
We have steep stairs in our tenant house, so we were thankful to find a wider strip of anti-slip tape to put on the edges of the steps. Be sure that the surface is clean and take time to apply pressure to get it to stick good. They don't seem like they will come loose easily now.

Great stickiness, no curling, great traction
Easy to cut to size, easy to apply, sticks well, gives great non-slip onartificial wood decking steps when wet or icy.

Adhesive is weak for outdoors.
I had to use stainless steel staples to hold these treads down on outdoor wooden stairs.

Works extremely well indoors.
I have seen a number of reviews here saying this product fails miserably outdoors. I cannot comment on that, I haven't tried them outdoors. I needed something to make a sharply inclined physical therapy exercise ramp safe, to prevent sliding off. I tried a number of anti-skid strips and they all failed under stress, slipping away from the position they were placed in and migrating down the ramp, or peeling off completely. I've had these on the ramp for months, so they have had a lot of use, and so far they are exactly where I originally put them with no sign of peeling off. The adhesive appears to be quite good and the grainy surface provides an excellent foothold for sneakers to grab to. If they will hold someone on a 25 degree ramp without slippage of either tape or foot, I have to assume they would do great on stair steps or floors, but all my experience with them has been in a dry environment.Pros - Stay tightly in place and provide very secure footing, even under the considerable stress of a sharp incline.Cons - Others have said they loosen and peel off in wet environments, I have not tested this.

this was one of my worst purchases ever on Amazon
I've always associated 3M with quality ...NOT SO! ...this was one of my worst purchases ever on Amazon. A couple months ago, I slipped on the back steps of my wooden deck and almost hurt myself. I did a lot of research and decided that I would cut and space strips of this outdoor tread tape and strategically place them on the steps for secured footing. Supposedly all you needed was a clean surface, peel back the tape, place it to the surface and press it down securely. It looked and worked nicely for a couple days ...until it rained. Then I noticed some ot the edges were starting to curl. I tacked them down with an electronic nail gun. Over the next couple weeks with various weather, practically all the edges started to raise and curl..If I caught this in time, I would have asked for a refund, but missed the deadline. With all this said, I would stay away from this product ...you'd probably have better success with gluing sand/gravel to the steps for better footing.

Quality product from 3M, working well in outdoor saltwater chlorine setting
I purchased to provide more traction for an above ground pool intake side clamp on style fitler/screen. The unit kept popping off. A 22' diameter pool with about 12,000 gallons of water. The surface of the pool frame is a smooth enamel finish and the clamp is plastic. The frame has an oval shape (Bestway / Coleman). I cleaned the surface of the exposed pool frame and then applied two side by side sections of this traction tape so that the ends were facing away from the pool water, tucked under the back and bottom edge. The clamp now stays on without issue, including with adults making waves from cannon ball jumps into the pool.Pool uses a chlorine generator (salt water system), and so far the traction tape has been problem free in that environment for about a month now.

Great for a dog ramp
Used these traction tape to secure the dog ramp better. The non-abrasive texture works great for my dogs' feet.
