Love the fact that the timer has 30 min adjustments, and the medium option, not just low and high
This works great, I've cooked in it 2-4 times a week for the past few months. America's Test Kitchen has this as their best slow cooker, so I picked it up... they are right! I trust this one so much that I use it overnight for things like pot-roast.I kinda wish they did the latches, but not for the "cooking"... just easy transportation and storage, to keep the lid from moving around... but that would not make it cook any better. The fact that I can dial the time to be 30 min increments is huge, and then it will display the time in minutes (down to 1 min increments) . Then it will swap to "keep warm" once time is out... Plus they have a button for "low", "med", "high", "keep warm" and a separate "power" button. So, its more control then other slow cookers tend to have, (just "on" or "low" and "high"). It also looks nicer, IMO.Side note: Lookup "Slow Cooker Mississippi PotRoast" on youtube. It's the best!!!! (Go with like 10-12 hours on low for that "fall-apart" tender)

Love this thing
This has to rate as one of the all time best purchases I've made for my kitchen. Honestly, it opened up a whole new world of cooking for me, and there's nothing I like more than appliances that are "set it and forget it" while I go do things I'd rather do than be in the kitchen. Chili, stew, soup? You bet! Pasta sauce or pot roast? Yes sir! Plus more... but you knew all that, so on to the review. When I bought this it was the top rated slow cooker and it has not disappointed. It has large capacity and works exactly as expected, with the controls being precise and intuitive. I like the cool blue illumination when it's on, and it looks sharp on the counter since all my other appliances are stainless steel with black accents.I will say the crock is HEAVY, which makes washing a bit unnerving, not wanting to chip or break it. When new there was a bit of an electrical smell which has long since gone away, but those are the only detractors from this fine appliance. If it quit I'd seek out another one just like it.

I wanted to love it!!
I wanted to love this Kitchenaid.I read all the reviews that said it doesn't get hot.I bought it anyway, and told myself that a slow cooker would necessarily cook slow. When I received it, I was delighted at how beautifully it was packed. The metal housing that seats the ceramic cooker was very impressive, so well built, thick walls, and nothing tinny about it.Good quality, and very esthetically pleasing. The electric cord also is a no nonsense heavy guage high caliper quality, that shouts "I mean business"Again, impressive.5 stars all the way.So I got right to it.I filled it 2/3 with water, and turned it on high ... 18 hours later I was still waiting for a simmer. "I got not one single bubble."I used 3 different thermometers periodically, and slid them in a tiny space at the edge of the lid , so as not to open the lid and lose any heat. After 24 hours barely getting the temperature past 185 degrees F, I deduced that I was going through ridiculous gyrations. So the problem with this beautiful well built little appliance is that it simply doesn't work.Just as an after thought ... the shape of the cooker is a narrow oval, making it tricky to fit a ham or a whole chicken, where as the same size Crock Pot brand is a much more round oval. This is the second time that I gave a nod to America's Test Kitchen, and was completely perplexed by their results. They could not possibly have tested this machine and given it the prized first place. Makes one wonder about the integrity of America's Test Kitchen!Perhaps someone should begin a real company that cuts down on the hype, and rates products according to their true value, and ability to perform. After two tedious attempts to get this cooker to work, I returned it and bought a Crock Pot brand, Crock Pot 6 quart SCCPVL610-S-A.It is in my kitchen making bone broth right now, and doing a great job.

Cooks like a slow cooker should
I purchased this recently, as I saw a great review on it, and I wanted a programmable, 6-quart cooker to add to my collection. Besides being very easy to use the programmable option, this is a true slow cooker. Modern day cookers tend to run very hot and boil the food to oblivion. This cooker keeps a steady temperature without boiling the food constantly. In fact, it is so similar to the vintage cookers, it might take some practice for those that are used to seeing their all-day cookers turn their food into a dried-up glob. This holds a lot of food, so it's perfect for larger recipes that you can freeze for later. There are no recipes featured in the basic instruction manual, but my suggestion would be to use the early Rival recipes that use long cooking times. I wish this programmable, true slow cooker was available when I was gone for more than 10 hours on work days, but I made do with using a basic lamp timer that I plugged my cooker into. Delayed the start time by a hour or so, and set a shut-off time prior to getting home if need be. This cooker switches to WARM when the selected cooking time/temperature is done. I love it! The only negative comment I have is that the insert is quite heavy. I use a bag/liner to keep washing at a minimum for easier handling.
