The Koehler Method of Open Obedience for Ring, Home and Field,

I chose this rating because I train dogs for a living ad while there are other philosophies out there none work on a day to day basis in quite the same manner as this methodology. In Koehler you will learn a step by step method to train your dog to do a true working retrieve.Without the ability to correct a dog you may find that your dog finds that he doesn't "have" to retrieve anything when the mood suits him.A couple of warnings though. Koehler is not a method that you can skip and choose what skill sets you choose to use. Also without the foundation work at the novice level open may be unfair to your dog.If possible you may want to find an accredited or lacking that go to the Koehler web-site, contact Tony Ancheta and he'll recoment a trainer in your area. How ever, if you are diligent and learn well from a book thousands of people have used it to great effect.Sincerely, Dan Salb.

I am a FIRM believer in Koehler's methods and that this book (along with several others that I have read) are excellent! Although I do use treats (however sparingly) and I do believe in positive training; I also feel that where treats are concerned it shouldn't be a situation where you are bribing the dog to do something. I agree that the dog should listen to you anytime and everytime and anywhere and everywhere, regardless of the situation. Koehler methods do this.

This book is great for forced fetch. I've already went through the first book and have started on this one and my Wolfdog is doing really well.

Excellent follow up to the first book to learn the Koehler method. Our dog is living proof as how great this method is. We have had a trainer working the dog while we train ourselves by reading these books. Highly recommend this as the best method to make sure your dog is safe.

This book was recommended by my Gundog Club for training the force retrieve command. Arguably one of the best books for that purpose.

Great guide for teaching your dog to retrieve. It is very helpful to the do-it-yourself trainer since finding a class is very difficult. We miss the Koehler's.
