Gardena 18709-81 VS Melnor 65137 AMZ Oscillating Sprinkler Comparison
The media could not be loaded. I'd like to think I've more important things to do than making sprinkler comparison reviews but when my first sprinkler, a Melnor, arrived unusable, I decided to both request a replacement from Amazon and order this similarly priced Gardena as a backup. I'd already lost a few days, and with the aforementioned important things on my plate and my dying grass (see pics) I couldn't risk another setback. The issue with the first Melnor was that the brass coupling was miss-threaded; there was simply no way of getting any hose or even the supplied quick connect to properly connect. It leaked massively and would even pop off because it could only be threaded about one turn and was far from engaging the rubber washer inside. I was happy to see that both the replacement Melnor and the Gardena attached to my hose properly and without leaks so I set up both sprinklers side by side deathmatch style to see what they could do.First off I'd say that build quality wise they are quite similar in that both are constructed entirely of low-to-mid-grade plastic except for the fact that the Melnor has a brass fitting, a bragging point for the company that I personally would have kept mum about considering it was the fail point on my first sprinkler. Basically using either of these sprinklers is akin to placing a fine china plate in the center of your yard. If someone steps on it it's probably a goner but treat them with care and you may get a few seasons use out of them. I ran them both at once side by side set to full length and width and with equal water pressure (I switched hoses back and forth to confirm) and found their coverage to be very similar. Distance wise I couldn't actually determine a winner. Width wise the Gardena appeared to be winning by a short margin. The spread of the canons on the Melnor actually looks to be a bit wider at the output point but those outer canons don't appear to have the full power of the inner ones. The Gardena canons are consistent and I think this is why it creates a slightly wider spray pattern. Running the sprinklers separately for full water pressure I confirmed this, getting 31' of distance from both sprinklers but only 19' of width from the Melnor compared to 21' feet of width from the Gardena. Not sure what that's worth but I've heard that width matters. And I was spraying in only one direction and measuring width from the center. Placing them in the center of the yard and measuring the full area results in double those numbers. 62' X 38' and 62' by 42' respectively. I'm sure results will vary depending on your water pressure, windspeeds, and the position of the moon. The Gardena quick connect it a little easier to attach as well. The Melnor attaches fine but often as I switched hoses I had to re-tighten to get it to stop leaking. One advantage of the Melnor though, is that you can disconnect the quick connect entirely and not use it. I think the Gardena quick connect must be used unless you modify things a bit. That small advantage aside, the Gardena is a clear, if slight, winner in most other categories and it's the one I'll be reordering in the likely event that one of these breaks in the near future. I may update this review if I see a clear advantage in durability over time for one or the other but I really am a very busy person so we'll see.

Loved so much I ordered more
This is my second order. I wanted to have more sprinklers in my yard. I like that it is easy to stake into the ground and is very flexible. The sprinkler covers a broad area of space and has a gentle flow of water.

Reverse the adaptor.
It doesn't work because the water flow goes only one way.I purchased a different one before and I had to return it, the same way.And now it costs me another $30 for some adaptors to make it work by reversing the water flow.

Amazing for skinny long flowerbeds
The media could not be loaded. Amazing for skinny long flower beds. Easy set up. Just follow the instructions on the back of the box. A game changer for me, as in the past I had to hand water both of my flowerbeds with the hose or a large sprinkler that went all the way on my porch. Can make it wide or skinny depending on how big an area you want to water. Short or long, depending on how much water pressure you use. This video shows approximately a 20 foot flower bed. My water Spicket is barely on. Highly recommend for targeted areas to water.

Great product, details of abilities are well founded.
Amount of controls is what sets this apart. No other sprinkler that I’ve used have more. Does exactly as described, would buy again, no doubt.
