Although I have used Wi-Fi hubs (both Amazon and Google) and a bunch of Wi-Fi controlled outlets, they aren't always optimal.If Wi-Fi is down, they won't work. If Wi-Fi is slow, there is heavy lag for outlet to switch on. Sometimes, if you aren't speaking in their direction loudly enough, they don't respond, and you have to repeat a bunch of times. Also, that can get irritating if you live with people, and you have to voice control the hub and the audio response that you often can't turn off. Honestly, over time, I've gotten more frustrated with them.RF controlled outlets are simpler, and they just work. You tap it and it's guaranteed to turn on or off. Instantly, no delay. No messy pairing process that sometimes scuffs out. This already came pre-paired, but even if it wasn't, the pairing process is easy as pie. Press the outlet button for a few seconds and then the same on the remote, done.The remote lights up blue right above the logo a faint blue to let you know it's working. It runs on a 2032 battery, but based on usage, it will probably be at least a year before I need to change it, with a small flat screwdriver.This also comes with double-sided adhesive to stick onto a fixed location.

Very small unit, 4.7 x 3.7 cm, and only 2.5cm from the outlet.It's a bit wide and might block side-by-side outlets that are close together.You have to pair the remote initially. Supposedly you can pair multiple remotes, or multiple outlets, but I only have the one set.The relay requires both prongs be inserted before it will activate. There's a pair of hall effect sensors and magnetic shutters so the relay won't activate without both plug prongs in. The effect seems to be to add a delay if you insert an appliance while the plug is on. This will prevent a spark that happens sometimes when you plug in a device. It is also sort of a safety since the plug won't become live unless both prongs have something in them.The outlet has a silicone shroud covering the outlet holes, with slits to let the plug pass. I guess it keeps dust and debris out.The remote is powered by a coin cell. It has to be pried apart which I found rather tough. It comes with a double-side foam sticker if you want to attach it to a surface.In it's off state the outlet draws less than my current meter will read (<0.1W I guess), and the same when it's on with nothing plugged in. When the relay is powered on it draws about 0.3W.== Internals ==Inside there is a Sanyou relay marked 16A 277VAC. There are some 400V capacitors, and a safety cap. I didn't pull the board to look at the backside as that's usually destructive in my experience.This unit is a radio version, but I think they may do a Wifi one with the same circuit board because there's a slot and some headers marked Wifi1. The main radio chip is CMT2210LB, a CMOSTEK On-Off Key standalone RF receiver.

The box says to pair first, but mine worked right out of the box. What I know is that this switch worked easily on a light that is across the room. I can not image what could be easier.You can hear the relay in the outlet engaging when the light goes on. What I am unsure of is whether the device does supply 15 amps as described. The relay click is a good sign. This means that it might work with a more power hungry device like a dust collector (mine pulls 12 amps). Which leads to my biggest grips. The electrical information, 15 amp, 1500 watts, 275 volts is really inconsistent. Who knows what the device can handle? I am willing to live with it as a light switch so that aspect of the description will go untested. I have fried devices in the past. It will end up being used either for my stereo or printer.

I needed a way to control a fan from another room in the middle of the night, so...NOT something requiring me to light up my phone and open an app. This remote switch does exactly that. I am genuinely impressed with how well this thing works. First, the setup: the instructions were clear, and the remote and outlet pairing was taken care of with two button presses and on the first try. Next, the functionality: the range on the remote is really, really good. I am using the remote in another room where there is NOT line-of-sight with the outlet. It functions perfectly. I tried it all over my (small) house and it worked without a hitch. Also, I like that the outlet itself isn't unduly large and does not block the other outlet when it is plugged in. This is how technology should function. Perfect for my needs, and highly recommended.

I use remote switches in my workshop to control my shop vacuum which I use for dust collection. I like this one because the large button on the remote is easy to locate and push while the remote is in my pocket; it makes it simple to turn the vacuum on when my hands are busy with other things. This unit is nice and compact and is rated at 15 amps - more than enough for lights or small appliances. The instructions for pairing the receiver and remote are pretty clear, except that you need to plug the receiver into the wall before pushing the pairing button (for some reason the picto-instructions show the receiver in mid-air). There are options to pair more than one remote with a single receiver, or multiple receivers with a single remote, if you buy multiple units.
