A must read for any serious Martial Artist
An 8th degree black belt, Master Tabata is the founder and head of the North American Karate-do Foundation - NAKF, in 1967, as well as of the New England Collegiate Karate Conference - NECKC, in 1968.He is in direct line from the founder of the Shotokan style, Master Gichin Funakoshi. His teacher, Master Iso Obata, was one of Gichin Funakoshi's first students and the first chairman of the Japan Karate Association.Master Tabata was sent from Japan to promote Karate in North America in late 60's. He has done so most effectively, building a large Karate organization in the North East. He was captain of the US Karate team for two decades, representing the US at many international tournaments. In addition, he was technical advisor to the US National Olympic Committee. My job has taken me around the world and I have studied in and run school in several countries. Tabata is the best Karate instructor I have ever come across.

This is an amazing book for martial artist and for any one just ...
More then just fighting. True martial arts is a way of life. A philosophy. Kazumi's book starts of with the proper mindset to have during a battle but then goes further to describe the way a martial artist mind should be in life. This is an amazing book for martial artist and for any one just looking for wisdom.

Lack of Readability makes it tough to swallow
I'm sure the book has many great insights, but it reads like a direct translation of PowerPoint slides. The information is true and solid, but it isn't really a book. It is more a collection of little bits of wisdom. Like bullet points instead of actual sentences. I kept waiting for the actual book part to come along but it never did.

Easy to laugh about it now
Sensei Tabata is an incredible man and Martial Arts teacher. I studied under Sensei Tabata for 3 days which were the most difficult and demanding days of my life. As part of a "Special Training" class he held annually at Boston University I was able to perform athletic feats that I never imagined any human could, much less myself. Performed several hundred Sit ups until the skin wore off my back, kicking 200 times each leg with a full grown adult on my shoulders, sparing and Kata all day long and into the early morning hours. Duck walking several time around the perimeter of the large gym. This may sound silly or bragging or even lies., but its all true, and I was just an ordinary 24 year old who signed up for a weekend of special training without a clue of what I was in for. The ability to perform these feats emerged out of fear of what physical punishment you would receive if you failed! Easy to laugh about it now, but I witnessed Sensei Tabata break a large diameter Bamboo pole he constantly carried with him over an individual named Bubba's back, because he was caught cheating on his 200 pushups!. All in all I was able to do the impossible, and Sensei Tabata put in the effort to allow you to understand that its only the mind that prevents you from accomplishing anything.. Its incredible to exist outside of your limitations, if only for a few days
