The app works well for me and I’m happy with my purchase
The media could not be loaded. So far this is great!Heads up:The new model timer stays green then turns red! But you can adjust that in the app. See review below. Before deciding on this spotlight timer I was on the defense between this one and another one for nap time but found I liked the stop light design idea better. I felt it was very relatable because it’s something kids see often and can relate the colors to their meanings better (green means go and red means stop). At first I was a little thrown off because I was under the impression, from previous reviews, that the timer would stay red until time was up then turn green (using it for naps). I figured it would be perfect because if my toddler woke up before the light turned green she knew that she had to wait until the red light turned green before it was ok for her to get up. Well it turns out that was an older model which was already programmed like that. I had received a newer model which stays green until the time is up then flashes yellow before turning red. Now I’m ok with that for activity time or for timing something she’s up and actively doing but for nap time I find that to be a little confusing for a toddler. However, there is an app you can download in which you can change the settings from green to red to red to green and it’s also easier to set the timer. I found this option quicker because you don’t have to hold buttons down to program or calculate minutes to equal your desired time(I’ve included pictures and a video) The app connects to your spotlight timer through Bluetooth and you can program what time you want it to stop. You can also silence it or add music, which I haven’t tried yet). The app feature kept me from returning this item and looking elsewhere, however I have read that some users had problems with the app on android phones. I have an iPhone and the app works perfectly for me without any issues.Pros: 1.) you have to keep holding the side buttons to program the timer or to cut it on or off. This keeps younger kids from manipulating the time. 2.) if the app works for you then it’s a plus to be able to switch between staying green or staying red and it’s easier to program the timeCons: 1.) if the app doesn’t work for you then it does take an extra min to program the time and you’re stuck with only one option for the light 2.) there isn’t a battery option and the cord provided isn’t that long 3.) you do need to set it every timeIf all the options the app provided were directly on the device and there was a battery option then this spotlight stoplight timer would be perfect.Overall I’m happy with my purchase and so far it’s helped with naps and timing activities!

Doesn’t work x2!
I ordered this and I was so excited to finally find a solution to my 3 year old waking me up at 4am! Only half the analog display was visible, but it didn’t actually turn “on”. The light in the back is green. I ordered a replacement… this one didn’t display ANYTHING! Again, the green light in the back is showing! I followed the directions, and began pushing every button just to see if I could get SOMETHING. Nope!I’m extremely disappointed.

This has saved naptime and made betime a breeze!
This light has saved nap time for me. I will tell you the longer story of it, but if you don't read through, the bottom line is it works! I figured I'd take a minute to write out my story in case you're suffering anything similar and need some friendly suggestions or just to know you're not alone in the struggle of toddler/preschooler naptime and bedtime. First, I'll just point out a few things.-It can run on battery, but also comes with a plug.-Only the red and green lights actually illuminate, which in the instructions it talks about why. I am really happy the yellow doesn't work because I think it would only add confusion.-The timer is set based on how long you want it to be red for, not actually a time of day you want it to turn on/off for. It must be reset every time, which only takes about 10 seconds. Sometimes this could mean you're doing a bit of math in your head. I actually just set it for 8 hours every night and 2 hours every nap time.-This could be great for timeouts, homework, TV time, ect. My 12 year old actually said she wanted one for reading. Here's our experience with it. My 3 year old has always been an excellent sleeper. Right after his 3rd birthday he started getting out of his crib. It took him longer because when he was 2 he got out once, fell on his face and got a bloody and swollen lip. Whenever he seemed tempted to climb out I reminded him of that and he decided against trying to get out. About a week after his 3rd birthday that was done and he was getting out. Within a matter of days he went from 2--3 hour naps a day and easy bedtime to no naps and a bear to put down at night. I would put him in his crib for a nap and he would climb out. I would do timeout, he would scream, then back to the crib, then climb out, then time out. It was a cycle of 2 hours of hell for me. I decided to think about options because without a nap he was acting horribly all evening and I wasn't getting anything done all day.I decided to do a few things all at once. I ordered blackout curtains and this light. We changed his crib into a toddler bed and bought him his favorite Paw Patrol bedding. We made these changes all in one day and made a big production about how big of a boy he was. We setup the light and went over how it worked. I was prepared to offer some sort of reward (most likely a sticker each time) for him following the "red in bed, green get up" rule, but amazingly I never had to. He responded incredibly well to the light.I know that my son likes having control. If I try to take control of something and he wants control, it becomes a power struggle. He's a very much "I want to do it myself" boy. I tried to give him some of the power with choosing various little things, like books and clothes, but the struggle was still there. The light took that power struggle away. I know it sounds a little nuts, but it's like he now doesn't think it's me telling him it's bedtime, it's the light turning red that makes it bedtime. He no longer argues with me. It's not me versus him anymore. Now at naptime I turn the light to red and he gets right in bed. We read 2-4 books while laying in bed together. Then I close the door and he stays in his bed! I have a camera in his room and am amazed that he'll lay in there, sometimes tossing and turning for 20-30 minutes and never gets out of bed. Then whenever he wakes up and the light is green he runs out saying "green light". He'll even take people in his room and show them the green light and actually really loves it.When I ordered this my husband rolled his eyes, thinking I was being silly. He hadn't yet been home during the day and witnessed the circus production of trying to get him to sleep. About a week after starting these changes and witnessing how effective they were, my husband admitted that it was genius. I can't promise that the light will be as effective for you as it is for me, but if you're at the end of your rope like I was, it's worth a try. Or alternatively, it might not be a bad idea to start before it gets bad and just get them in the habit of it. I'm posting a few pictures of the light and then the 4th picture is of my son waiting quietly in bed for it to turn red. I will say, I don't abuse the power of the light. I set it every night for 8 hours, which he usually sleeps 10. I set it for naps for 2 hours, he usually sleeps 2-3. I don't want him to wake up and have it on for a long time after. I feel it wouldn't be effective if he started disliking it. 95% of the time he wakes up and it's already green and he gets really excited about it. I want to keep it fun for him. Anyway, I will end the long story here. Feel free to ask if you have questions!

it works well
This had an immediate impact on our child staying in bed in the early morning. Not did it only work, but its fun and she likes it. The child-proof controls are easy to use but work well for preventing my child from messing with it.That said, we ultimately bought and prefer a different product as a sleep timer, because this one does not function as an alarm clock, which is way more useful for a daily sleep timer. This timer only works as a timer, and is not a clock and does not keep track of time. We still use this as a timer for other things, so its very useful in general, but its not the best as a sleep timer. This product could also be improved by making the green light stay on longer. When we used it for naps sometimes our child would wake up after the light turned off, and would yell at me about it like its somehow my fault. Kids!
