Unhappy camper in MI. I can not recommend this machine or Laguna’ service. Updated!!
Had high hopes, but to my surprise, my marching has turned out to be a nightmare. Like other reviews mentioned my was received with a broken handle. When I was trying it out on scrap wood it seemed to be fine. I started my first segmented bowl project on Feb 3rd and began hearing a noise, which has gotten much louder. The manual said this is a bad bearing, isn’t that odd on a new machine. Then I noticed that the drive belt was moving to the right and frayed the edge a little. I have wasted a few hours trying to adjust the tracking, but no matter what I do it tracks to the right. To make things worse Laguna’s help line tells you that the message box is full. The very, very worst thing that I missed my return window with Amazon by 3 days. Very unhappy camper in MI. Update....Amazon did allow me to return the sander, Amazon is great! So like an idiot I ordered another Supermax and it arrived with the on/off switch in pieces, both hold down rollers were loose and the brackets that held the rollers looked to be bent. So now I’m sending two sanders back. Again, thanks to Amazon. Now I don’t know what to do, get the Jet? Problem with the jet is you can not return it to Amazon as it is not shipped by Amazon. I will probably end up getting a Jet. Hey Laguna/Supermax don’t ship your sander with the 50 lbs box containing the “free” stand bouncing around smashing the sander. Again, thank you Amazon.

GREAT sander, cheep metal....
Don’t get my review wrong, this is a fantastic sander, it saves time and (most importantly) the pain I endure from hand sanding larges surfaces.Unfortunately the metal used for the feed belt brackets are so cheap and soft they can’t be adjusted and expect to be in alignment after A few hours of use, at which point you have to readjust and hope that you don’t shred the edges of your feed belt. This company definitely needs to invest in harder medals and more serious engineering and design for accuracy and precision. I mean seriously, you don’t use soft pliable steel in a Percision machine when everything else in the machine is hardened or cast engineered steel or iron. ‘Think, weakest link’ people!I am very unhappy about that, I ate completely away, in 1/10th of a second, any potential profit from two different jobs trying to get this sander leveled and stay there thinking it was leveled then doing the job and finding it slip because the bolts or brackets were slipping.... ARGH 2#$%^ thanks, goodbye $$$$$So then there are the good points....Awesome torque control on the primary motor. The ‘burn’ prevention / over sand sensor technology is well done. It seems to know when to ‘slow down’ we’ll enough to prevent burning and gouging. Awesome feature! But it doesn’t STOP!If you’re not going to provide secure adjustment mechanisms (see above concern) then for sure you need to say to the machine ... ‘ sense more torque,,,, slow down, sense more torque, STOP and stay stopped”Yes, I know this seems like the USER may have been inattentive or reckless but consider that the belt tensioner hardware is soft {risk of loosening and falling out of adjustment) and that the feed belt offset for wider than 16” material is also not ‘absolute’ when locked down (due to one [1] nut {not bolt/nut combo} keeps the feed table elevation aligned, and that this one nut is soft cheep metal) thus you find yourself scrambling to find out what the hell went wrong to get a 1/16” dip in the material!!!!!So, after two disastrous but recoverable (by repair) jobs, I’m break even on this machine.I simply should not have had these simple to fix (preventable) issues...ARGH!And lastly, the lack of “included” extended infeed/outfeed tables means you WILL have to purchase them. In my NORTH AMERICAN quality opinion if you can’t depend on a a machine to do a quality job without a [given] part.... you just shouldn’t sell it without it. You might as well have it made in China by cheep labor and materials. ‘Sorry’ to those who disagree but this would be an AMERICAN value otherwise, so there goes our AMERICAN / North American quality and values!Happy but .... NOT HAPPY!

Some headaches, but worth the price
Like many it seems, my sander arrived damaged. One of the feeder rollers had broken off during shipment and was rolling around the box.Not a huge issue as there are 4 total so plenty of opportunity to figure out how the 4th one needs to be attached. Once I got it on it was a simple assembly process. The belt is a bit fussy with its unwillingness to stay in the middle of the rollers, but not too terribly annoying to deal with.Wrapping the sandpaper is not as bad as people say. On one occasion the paper did rip during use where it clamps to the roller causing some horrific noises within the housing, but it hasn’t happened again after 4-5 hours of use.Overall, for the price, and it’s ability to tackle wide panels, I’d definitely buy this again even with the minor headaches. It’s saved me countless hours of standing around with my orbital sander fixing flaws in glue ups, removing tear out, etc.

Would buy it again and highly recommend this model.
I have used planers for end grain and hand sanders, orbital sanders, and belt sanders to clean up milled lumber to specific tolerances. It’s been a time consuming process. This however made a huge difference. I am so thankful I bought it finally. Thought about it for a year and I would have saved me a lot of time had I just pulled the trigger sooner. Dust collection is awesome too even when hooked up to just a shop vac. Ill eventually get a better dust collection system that is safer but all in all third works very well for what I need. I’ll be buying the table attachments as well soon because you need them if your going to be sanding anything over 2 feet otherwise you’ll have to watch the boards closely so they don’t fall. The worry about packaging and damage has been easily corrected. They improved packaging. They also changed the digital read out display as you can see from the photo. It was easy to setup, align and my first boards came out within .006” of each other. I am very impressed. Thanks Supermax! Love the matching.

Good Value
The product was delivered late and also damaged. The problem was the shipping company. I called Supermax the next day and talked to a service tech who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I had repair parts in a few days and it it up and running. It does a great job sanding to thickness. The digital height readout is very helpful and repeatable. I found that running a piece through twice when I get close to my desired thickness makes for a very accurate finished product. Overall I am happy with my purchase.
