Elon Musk: by Walter Isaacson Paperback – 12 Sept. 2023

Read Isaacson's book on Steve Jobs, which was fantastic, so decided to read this one on Musk because of that.I started reading this with a negative view of Musk, he just rubs me up the wrong way, so i decided to read this to give him a chance to prove me wrong. You have to see both sides of the coin before you can formulate an opinion and I can say I started with an open mind. I really tried to see things from his point of view. I totally get that any successful person has to be single minded, dedicated, focused, blunt and ruthless. To be fair that is why their billionaires and I'm not. I really liked at Tesla he put the designers in the factories, next to the production line so they saw the impact of their design and how it could be improved.About halfway through the book the tone changes when Isaacson stops telling the story and starts shadowing Musk and reporting what he heard and saw, that the facade that Musk created falls away. At the beginning of the book he talks about being bullied at school, feel sorry for him, but by the end of the book his bullying of people is common place, what a hypocrite. That type of thing. Ripping all the Twitter servers out of a datacentre and moving them on trucks to prove he was right, never mind the damage and loss of service ?!?!? That was idiotic.So I read the book with an open mind, so now I have data points on why I dont like the man. In fact the best quote is by Isaacson himself; I paraphrase, does his drive excuse his bad behaviour, his callousness, his recklessness? The answer is no of course not.So fantastic book, interesting subject, learned a great deal and I will NEVER, EVER buy a Tesla. I would not give that man a penny of my money.

A brilliant overview of a brilliant mind!

Beautifully written, assuming shadowing Musk for such a long time and then getting him in your head to think like him would have been quite challenging.Isaacson is master in getting character's head and life, and creating amazing autobiographies.

Compelling from the first page. Isaacson answers all the questions.

Worth reading rest as title.

After reading this book, Elon Musk is not a person I’d like to work with or have any family connection to. Clearly he’s out of control and is incapable of observing all sorts of rules. But this book gave me a better insight than anything else written about Musk into how and why he had been able to solve some ridiculously complex challenges - his level of hands on participation is like nothing else and the value add he brings to hundreds and thousands of business challenges becomes clear in this book. Thanks to Walter Isaacson for surviving two years alongside Musk to deliver this revealing and well written story.

Brilliant biography which reveals the character and personality behind the enigma of Musk. The book moves at a pace, with short, sharp chapters which keep you engrossed. Makes you wonder what the world could achieve if there were more like Musk, particular in challenging all aspects of conventional wisdom, bearaucracy and red tape. Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic biography of a great man of our modern times and the future of humanity! I highly recommend the purchase of this outstanding book to all!

This book by Isaacson had been recommended to me. I was particularly interested in Musk's involvement in the development of Space X but insight into the man and his other endeavors was nicely brought out in this biography. And after reading, I am even considering overcoming my resistance to buying an EV and if I do, I think it will be a Tesla.

The author has made a great job in depicting Elon Musk, both the man and the myth. It's splendidly written with the whole story being chunked down to many small chapters of few pages that are easy to read and to savor which is fine, because each chapter is simply information-packed dropping insightful statements almost on every chapter.Isaacson is absolutely impartial while narrating the deeds of Musk and is personality analysis is both deep, cunning and at the same time sober, I appreciated it very much. This bio is very interesting also on the fact that makes you appreciate Elon Musk the disruptive engineer, the man who makes things working in the most impossible situation and against insanely high benchmarks (like to make humanity multi-planetary or electrifying cars worldwide). As an engineer myself, I found it very inspiring at some. Really a delighful bio. Five stars!

What can I say about Elon Musk. In so many ways, he's just an extraordinary human being.

Eine wirklich gelungene Biographie über Elon Musk. Es war interessant zu erfahren, wie schwer es doch ist der reichste Mann der Welt zu sein, welche Tiefen Musk schon in seinem Leben überstehen musste, wie viel Arbeit in seinen zahlreichen Unternehmen steckt. Sein Reichtum ist absolut verdient, wenn man sieht wie hart er arbeitet und welche Opfer er erbringen musste und muss, um die Menschheit als Zivilisation voranzubringen.
