Superstructs Super Set

Tinkertoys were my favorite as a kid and I wanted to get them for our children as well. I actually ordered both the Superstructs and the Tinkertoys. Although I really like wooden toys and would prefer them most of the time over plastic, I ended up taking back the Tinkertoys instead of these.I was surprised at the diameter of the rods and holes. Some websites said these were interchangeable with Tinkertoys and I thought that meant they were about a pencil size in diameter, but they are about double that instead, as are the new Tinkertoys.My 2 year old loves to build and play like this but the rods are very difficult for her to firmly put in the holes. This is unfortunate but she will figure it out in time.This is a classic toy that teaches so much about problem solving, creativity, how to follow directions, even just depth perception for young kids, etc!My only real complaint is that these are made in China. I had to call the company to find out. (Tinkertoys are also made in China....just like just about everything else we want to buy on the market these days!!!)

My granddaughter had used a friend's tinker toys and greatly enjoyed them. Looking to buy some for her, we were dismayed to find that TinkerToys only seem to come is small sets. We could not locate a large set which provided a range of different things that could be constructed. Web investigation revealed that the original TinkerToy name has gone through several different companies and that another company also makes Tinker Toys (two words rather than one). Fortunately, web reviews indicated that Superstructs do the same job and are superior to other offerings of "tinker toys". Our experience had confirmed that the Superstructs provide the old time tinker toy experience and are a durable and well constructed product.

We bought these after being disappointed buying the "new fangled" tinker toys (wooden). They weren't inexpensive at all and were very poorly made - pieces just did not fit properly and anything you made often sagged the wrong way. So, I thought I'd try these out because I remember loving "tinker toys" as a child and these are exactly the same. These are wonderful - well made and we still have them after a few years - the kids still love to make them. If they are too rough, they can break a piece - but it takes a lot. I hope to grow our collection because these are keepers!

We bought Super Set for our 3 year old son. He likes to build things and this set is great way to have fun. Even me and my husband having fun when we helping him to build something.PROS: What is cool about this set - you get a lot of pieces, so you can build bigger things. Just yesterday we build lawnmower and it ended up pretty good size and just right height for my son. There are a lot of ideas to build on the supersrtucts.com site.CONS: The only con I found so far - I wish pieces where more durable. It's easy to build, but not easy to disassemble without almost cracking the ends of the sticks. So you have to really think what parts to take apart first to not crack it.Overall its a great toy for boys and girls who like to build and want something more fun other then lego duplos and blocks.

My 7 yr old daughter spends hours building amazing contraptions. It is so nice any time you see a "modern" kid entertained by an "old fashioned" toy. Using your imagination to create something is REAL play! And I would say these are suitable for little builders up to the age of 10 at least.

I bought this set for a couple of kids, one boy and one girl. We played with them constantly, having tons of fun. The included designs are fun to build but creating your own is even better. They built and played with all sorts of vehicles, structures, and (of course) swords. They are very durable; we abused them pretty badly, using them for sword fights and many of our vehicles ended up going down the stairs. None of the pieces broke. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. On another note, though this set has a good number of pieces, you can never have too many. I think we would have been disappointed with a smaller set.

Looked for old fashion TinkerToys and quickly learned the wooden ones were no longer available. Creative toys are limited these days and we were please to find this plastic alternative for the original wooden sets. Children were fascinated and quickly started creating projects.

It's okay. A lot of parts which is good for the imagination. Like the book of ideas of items to build. However, the parts are not easily put together or taken apart. I can see that these pieces will break easily. Would go the Tinkertoy route.
