Must have for rust effects
I painted 2 sets of gallowdark terrain and threw this on very heavy. It works great! But it isn't just magic in a bottle. Make sure you read the instructions first and test on another piece before using it on something important.

Instant favorite!
This stuff is fantastic. Another miniaturist told me about it. I was intrigued. And now I’m hooked. I found myself brainstorming about projects that need rusting and slapping my own hand away from going crazy with it on current projects. I am in awe of how well Rust works. It goes on looking like a dark brown ink and then dries lighter into fabulous organic looking patterns of rust. Blows my mind!

Great rust effects.
This is a great product. Makes really nice, cool and easy rust effects. They don’t give great instructions though so if you do get it take these tips. 1 this stuff is very resistant to mixing. If you don’t have some way to vibrate it really hard it’s gonna be tough to get it to work right. 2 glob it on there thick, don’t paint it. 3 don’t use your good brushes.

Best Product on the Market
This product replaces many, many steps to create an incredible rust effect on small miniatures and vehicle models. Highly recommended.

Great rust product.
Loved the ability to achieve a basic rust effect with one coat. After allowing to dry,I speckled with water and pooled water in specific areas.20 minutes later, the final look was mind blowing.Using texture pastes with this will look even more real.Patience with this is the key.Air dry only-no hair dryers(alcohol based).Highly recommended.

Paint that requires skill, not skill in a bottle
I got this after seeing a bunch of videos on YouTube and Discord comments that praise it as an incredible product: skill in a bottle. That's not true. It is clearly capable of producing some incredible results but you have to practice a lot and do the right things with this is order to get those results reliably. If you don't, your results will be barely distinguishable from a brown/yellow wash like Army Painter sells for 1/5 the price. Once you realize or look up the secrets, you will need to practice and put in the prep effort to get reliable results. I haven't been able to get reliable results yet after 3 months and I find that sponge weathering with regular acrylic craft paints produces much more reliable results. In the photo, the streaks below the weld plate bolts on the left were done with dirty down; the ones on the right are army painter soft tone. That's certainly not the limit of what this product can do, but it's an illustration of how other less expensive products can produce similar results if you aren't on point with all the skill and preparation required for it's use or if you're using it for something that's really simpler than it is required for.For the record, the recommendations that I've seen and which appear to hold true are: in order to get the best out of it, 1. you need to shake it extremely well--vortex mixer well--or stir it up with a toothpick or both. 2. You need to use it at the right temperature--probably warm it up in a bowl of hot water unless your room temperature is above 90 degrees fahrenheit (in which case it might also have problems). 3. You need to splatter it with small (or scale appropriate) water droplets as it sets--or perhaps apply it at a mix of dilution levels with a makeup sponge 4. Apply it over paint (not just primer), preferably with other weathering steps ahead of time.I'm still trying to get good results out of it--and I have gotten some good results, but even more mediocre ones. This isn't skill in a bottle like shades and contrast/speedpaints are. It's a tool that requires a lot of skill, practice, and preparation to use. The results other people show make it look like it rewards that practice but unlike some of the other modern mini painting products, it has a very steep learning curve.

Real rust for miniatures!
Nothing better than real rust for miniature projects! You use so little the bottle will last forever. If you want textured rust effects, add the texture before apply the Dirty Down Rust.
