Q: Connection - if i run the optical from my tv - will this output 5.1 to the rca jacks?

Yes, it will I run optical in and RCA out to full sound-reducing headsets my wife used them so she doesn't hear outside noises. When I want to hear TV I just turn up the TV volume on the TV. As a side note, the wife walks all around doing chores, about 100 ' still listening to TV on Artiste digital headsets with RCA plugs unit has rechargeable batteries and a base to recharge. Q: If i connect only toslink, would i get 5.1 sound ??? Or is only through the coaxial input?

It has two different digital audio inputs, along with the wired digital. There's also a 1/8 (headphone) jack back there, but not sure if it's an input or output. I use it with the wired input out of a Sony DVD player. Works fine. You can also choose between 2.1 and 5.1 via a switch on the back. As for the inputs, there is a button to push that switches between inputs, so you can hook different things into it.

Por ahorro de energía es bueno desconectarlo, sin embargo yo lo he tenido por más de 1 año conectado y funciona como el primer día.
